Logitech Harmony 880 LCD Remote Control — 

The Harmony 880 is amazing. I had the 880, and then upgraded to the 890 to get RF capability (ability to go through walls), but the remotes are the same. If you have never used an Activity based remote such as any of the Harmonies or a URC remote, you just don't know what you are missing. Before I had used one, I saw them at the store and couldn't believe someone would pay that much for a remote control, and now wouldn't dream of living without it. Activity based means you press one button, say Watch TV, and the remote does everything you need to be watching TV; it will turn your TV on, turn your stereo receiver on, turn your cable receiver on, set your TV to the correct input, and set your stereo to the correct input. No more 10 remotes. No more pressing TV, then pressing Power, then pressing CBL, then pressing power, etc. My mom can come over and watch TV or a DVD with full surround sound without having to ask me how to do it.

To elaborate on the cons listed, I've worked with a lot of the Universal Remote Control (URC), line of remotes and they are much easier to use for the end-user because they have larger buttons, but they just don't compare in sleek and sexy. My recomendation would be different depending on whether you are more of a form or function person.

Also, I alsways tell everyone that the Harmony's are the easiest remote to configure 90% of the way and the last 10% of configuration is cumbersome and confusing. The URC remotes are more difficult to program overall, but they are completely customizable much easier to make small tweaks to.
