I went in search of a double faced tape to install the LED Lights on my V Star. I have always used 3m tape in the past but Walmart didn't have any, what they did have was this Loctite Power Grab Tape. So wanting to get my lights on I decided to give it a try, I have used other Loctite products before and had good results.

Loctite Power Grab Tape

Loctite Power Grab Tape
comes on a roll that is 3/4" x 60" and looks very similar to the 3m brand many of us have seen. The package claims it can withstand temperature fluctuations from -40 degrees to 248 degrees Fahrenheit, that's some serious cold and heat! It is also Waterproof and resists humidity. On their website I found this claim. "Just 6 inches of tape will hold up to 11 lbs., if the object is flat and under .4 inches thick." Now I was just looking for something to hold 2 ounces of LED Lights to the frame of my V Star so this certainly should hold with no problems.

Using Loctite Power Grab Tape

For my task the tape was a bit too wide but easy to get around. I first cleaned my LED lights with alcohol, let them dry and applied a length of tape to the side I needed against the frame rails of my V Star. It comes off the roll with one side exposed, you stick this to the piece you want to bond to your surface. Once you have it in place a cut to length you can the peel off the red protective layer and bond it to the other surface.

Then I turned it over and took my razor knife and trimmed it to fit. I cleaned my frame with alcohol, let it dry and with some pressure placed the LED's in place. After letting them set for about an hour, which is how long it took me to place all 6 LED's, wire then up and secure the wires with zip ties. I tried tugging at them one at a time and none of them moved at all.

Just for giggles (you know how us Rednecks are...lol) I took my 2 1/2 pound hammer and cleaned a spot and then put a 4" strip of Loctite on it. I wiped a stud on my wall and stuck the hammer to it. One week later it was still stuck to my garage wall and it took some real hard tugging to get it off, along with some twisting on my part. I am convinced that my 2 ounce LED's are going to stay where I put them for a very long time!

Bottom Line

Loctite is probably not as well known as its competitor 3m but I do feel as if they have a winner with their Power Grab Tape. I still have over 1/2 the roll left and I am sure I can find some useful projects for its use. Power Grab Tape did not let me down and performed as well as the other products from Loctite I have used in the past.

The parent company is Henkle with their headquarters in Germany but this is sold in many stores including Walmart. ;)

Now that is something I have not seen on a bike...loving the lights. This tape would be handy at work...oodles of items I need to put up that for now has not stayed with the tape I have been using.

Yep...like hanging pictures, plates or keeping things from sliding off of shelves.....I even thought of getting an extra cell phone clip and taping it to my dash to hold my cell phone in place...;)
