When I got an instant message wondering if I'd like to tag along to see the first showing of "Live Free or Die Hard", I jumped at the chance. Literally. I had extremely high expectations for this movie, considering the past 3 have turned into classics. The plot is something along the lines of Detective John McCLane is sent to pick up a hacker, on the FBI's most wanted list, for questioning, when things suddenly turn bad. He's pitted against an internet based terrorist organization who's trying to trying to cause havoc in the United States by using their technology against them.
I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed, or that my expectations weren't met. Because in actuality, they were, possibly even exceeding them. There was only one thing I wasn't really satisfied with. Bruce Willis' acting. I know that's a rough thing to say since he's pretty much the same solid actor in every movie he's in. It just feels as though he's lost something. Maybe his age is catching up to him, maybe he's just been out of the John McClane character for too long. Whatever the case may be, it was not up to par with the other 3 Die Hards. With that being said, in my opinion, it doesn't take away from the movie at all and still ended up being a fantastic movie. The action and the catchy anecdotes were spot on. I especially enjoyed one scene where Willis has a fight scene with one of my current favorite actors Cyril Raffaelli (District B-13). Other than Willis' slightly off acting, the rest of the cast performed great and were well picked for their roles. As a side note, even though this movie is rated PG-13, I wouldn't suggest bringing any younger children to see it. (violence/language)
I highly suggest seeing this movie if you're a Die Hard fan or just a fan of action movies in general. Once this hits DVD, it will definitely be a nice addition to my collection.
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 2 hours 10 minutes
Rating(out of 10): 8.2
