With three children, I have seen a lot of diapers and I have never tried regular diapers in a pool, but I have seen others try it, and it is not a pretty sight. I have bought Huggies Little Swimmer diapers for my oldest two daughters in the past.

What I like about Huggies Little Swimmers:

  • Don't blow up like a toad's cheeks when they get wet
  • Can help to protect the pool water from dangerous contamination
  • Cute designs--my girls wanted to wear these instead of normal diapers after they saw how cute they were
  • Did not break out my children, who have incredibly sensitive skin
  • My girls' swimsuits fit nicely over these
  • Can sometimes find a coupon for these

What I don't like about Huggies Little Swimmers:

  • Pricey
  • May not be available in stores during the "off" season
  • Not great for the environment. I just found a washable swimming diaper at the Dollar Tree--you'd better believe I'm going to give this a try
  • Hard to get off when wet
  • Gross to get off when loaded--they do not open on the sides so you have to pull them down

My Viewpoint:

Huggies Little Swimmers diapers are cute, don't swell, and can help to keep pool water cleaner; however, they are quite expensive and add to the waste in our landfills. If you are looking for a disposable swim diaper, this is a good brand, but it would be nice if they were a little easier to remove. If you are looking to save money or to protect the environment, you might want to check out washable swim diapers.

Glad I could be of some help! My kids have loved the water, especially those very shallow wading areas for the kids.

My son hasn't been in a pool yet, but I think I will get these when he does. Thanks for the info!

Well, I tried the re-usable swim diaper as a cover for my homemade cloth diapers because it said it was waterproof. That was a bust, or should I say a wash-out! I think it might work well in a pool but haven't tried it yet. In case you're curious, the brand is Wee Wave, and I found them at the Dollar Tree for $1 each. I'll try to post a review on them once I've tried them in the pool.

Thanks for this helpful review. I was just wondering what I was going to do this year for my little one. Let us know about the re-usable swim diaper after trying.

I agree. The media coverage in recent years has brought health hazards, among other issues, to the attention of many others now.

We used these with my niece and nephews. I wish more people would be more conscientious about putting their children in public pools and water areas in regular diapers. I guess they aren't thinking about what they could be subjecting others too.
