Little Miss Sunshine  —

I must say that ... after seeing numerous coming-attraction trailers and hearing much ecstatic praise about this film, I was prepared not to like it.  I figured it was another cute-kid vehicle.  In other words, I was a "hard sell."

To make a long story short, I have now revisited this movie at least five times and every time I have seen some other thing to appreciate.  This is a wonderful movie and everybody did a fantastic job.  It was one of those films where all the supporting characters (even the incidental ones who played people the family met along the way or at the hospital or beauty pageant) were important and treated their roles with respect.  Though the family was dysfunctional, the characters were never disrespected by anybody involved with this film.

I can't imagine the amount of rehearsing and careful choreography it took to get those shots of everybody chasing the car along and jumping into it while it was in motion!

You know, I think the secret was that even though it was a "feel good" film, nobody -- including the little girl -- tried to be TOO cute. That made a big difference. It was totally different from what I thought it was going to be.

I have to admit... I was a "hard sell" as well, but ended up enjoying it.
