Well made film about a very gifted 7 year old genius prodigy who is involved in a tug of war between his financially struggling single mom (Jodi Foster) and a controlling gifted school director (Diane Wiest) who believes the mom is a terrible influence on the child and not capable of giving the child the intellectual stimulation he must have. The film takes on several issues in a very honest, direct way thanks to a good script by Scott Frank, and solid direction by Jodi Foster.
