I loved this litterbox from the beginning. With 4 cats I believe it lasting 3 years was great, since it was only about $120. They are available in the new model for about $80, but I have seen negative reviews on that one. When I get the $80 to buy one I will post here what I think.

We thought this might make life a little easier, with several cats in the house.  Nothing could have been further from the truth!

The cats enjoyed jumping in and out of it, for fun, but when they'd try to use it, the motor startled them.  And it clogged up.  The litter had to be "groomed" to a specific...

So lets get right to the poitn with this.  The Littermaid is a great electronic litterbox, hands down.  But there are some really big flaws in the system.  To explain read more.

1. The littermaid (whether its the standard or the bigger size) is only made for up to 1 to 2 cats minimum.
2. 2 or more cats can lead to the overflowing of the cat litter, in which the system gets stuck and your left with a bunch of cat poo and odor.
3. The system's teeth can break off from the product which is not a problem because all you have to do is have your receipt and bring it back to the store for a switch out....

My mother in law and I both have this product, I love it and she did not.  It is true that it depends a lot on the cats personlity.  My cats like it because their box stays cleaner and I found that tidy cats litter with tidy lock works the best.  I only have to empy the box every other day with 3 cats instead of cleaning their box everytime I am in the room.  The cats and myself are happy.  But if you have a scaredy cat like my mother in law and the don't pee or poop in the box then it may not be worth it.  Also they have great customer service. The rake broke and they sent a new one.  I... read full review »

I was very excited when I got my new LitterMaid, and for a very good reason. LitterMaid cleans the litter box for you. Once a day, usually in the evening, I would empty the little holder in a bag and dispose of it. Terrific ideea. There was only one big problem. Quite often, I've found kitty poop on the floor outside the box. So, I've followed the cat to the box and watched the whole incident. The cat was indeed getting in the box, but her butt was hanging over, and of course, "stuff" got on the floor.

I guess it would work fine for a very small cat or a kitten. I have two adult cats, medium size....

I had one of these and wound up giving it away as my cat didn't like that it moved and made noise.  It didn't do that when she was in the box of course, but she noticed it and was a little scared of it I think.  Also I thought it was a little messy.  Maybe I needed a more premium clumping litter though.

I wish it had worked for my cat as it would have been convenient.  I would say if a cat is not easily spooked and for those cat owners who really want to avoid scooping around in kitty litter, this might be a good product.  My kitty though, gave it a "thumbs" down.

I have three cats and I don't even think the cartridge lasts two days. It initially scared my cats.  Then they thought it was fun to keep making it go off. Now, it just can't keep up with the amount of poop they put out! Don't waste your time. For one, you have to spend a little extra on the litter, because it works best with the ultra-fine expensive stuff. In addition to already having to pay for the trays.  By the time you spend the $60-$100 on the machine and then all of the extras, it's definitely not worth it. I ended up with a mess anyways trying to get teh trays out so you might as well... read full review »

Item worked well with one cat or if I have the kitty door open so that my cats can come and go, but the minuite they are confined to indoors and are all forced to use the litter box - wow - it gets bad quickly.  Works good for one or two kitty's - not so good when you have more than that.  Also does not cover up the odor's as advertised.  One positive point was that when the rake did break the company was very good about sending me a new one at no charge since it had a 1 year warranty.  Good service.   Would not purchase again for my situation.

I spent more time cleaning the litter from the track that the self cleaning mechanism rolled down then I would have cleaning the litter box my self. I had three cats at the time of use, each with their own peculiar potty habit. One likes to stand on the edge of the box and was frieghtened by the mechanism. Two who like to dig to china in the litter which then clogged up the track. Ultimately, the latter is what led to the dismise of the Littermaid Self-cleaning Litter box. I will never again pay so much and get so little from a cat litter system.

Bought this and it worked for about 3 days. When I called the service dept. they had me cut the ribbon to the computer chip and send it back so the could replace the whole unit.

Well they did and this time it worked for about 2 months. Yes I will call again but this time I want my money back.

The so called hands off waste disposal does not sit well and some litter does get in under it which winds up on the floor.

The first one I bought lasted the longest (about a year.)  After that they kept breaking on me.  I guess my multi-cat household was too much for it.  One of them just kept cleaning the box every ten minutes.  Great unless you are trying to sleep... Forget customer service.  Weren't helpful and who would blame them? Would you like receiving broken, dirty litterboxes in the mail to repair?

Just not a practical product for people who have more than one cat. Not worth the money I spent on it. Don't buy it. Spend some time on toilet training your cats instead. That's what I will do. I have already told all my friends not to buy it.
Also wrote to the company about my dissapointment with their product.
