Most HelpfulI will be honest, I bought this because I am lazy and because it seemed like a cool concept: too good to be true. I was definately right on that last one. It was fun to set up. I let it be for two days and then decided to check it out. The noise had been annoying but the bigger issue was that...
review »I have used the Littermaid Self Cleaner for the past 13 years that I have had my cats and this is one product that I could not do without. When I first found my 2 kittens I tried to keep a normal litter box and found I just couldn't keep it as clean as I wanted. This totally helped me get the cleaning and the litter box smell under control.
The Littermaid cleaner is so easy to use. Just fill with litter, put in a container to catch all the clumped litter and plug it in. The cleaner has sensor, so once your cat has done it's business it waits 10-15 minutes and then rakes up the clumps and dumps...
review »We've actually got 2 Mega units -- one in the laundry room and one on our screen patio. The one on the patio was used one time by 3 little kittens--one of which has "adopted" us and has become a part of our household.
Our problems with the 2 units is that we have 3 cats at most inside the house at one time. The male kitten has grown a bit to sometimes go outside during the day as well as the second female cat. That leaves an older male cat inside at all times. The problem has come from this older male -- while we keep both littler boxes clean, emptying the litter trays several times weekly,...
review »I've wanted one of these for the longest time...pretty sure I've wanted one since they were invented! Anyway, I bought the larger one due to my owning more than one cat and I thought it was the best investment every. I hate to clean the litter box so my sister does it. She hates to clean the litter box so we bought a littermaid. It was a little spendy for my taste but I figured spending that much money on a litter box of all things was definitely worth it if it cleaned itself.
My cats loved it and immediately began using it. Once they realized that everytime they stepped into the box that almost...
review »Thrilled to finally buy the Littermaid 700 automatic self-cleaning box...then it got intimate! It took a long time to assemble because the notch to hold the receptacle and ramp was so poorly designed and flimsy as to be almost non-existent. I couldn't believe that it was really supposed to hold together that way and kept trying again.
The first time the cat used it the mechanism wouldn't shut off and it kept going through the auto-scoop maneuver incessantly Good thing I was home to shut it off. Called customer service, the cat had peed behind the rake and this clumped so the rake couldn't return...
I tried one a few years ago and returned it within a week. The clumps would stick to the rake, then the rake wouldn't complete its cycle, which was annoying. Also, I was worried about the overall cleanliness of the machine as it seemed like dirty litter would still be in the box (stuck to the bottom or sides).
When I dumped the litter out and tried to clean the machine (so I could return it) it was not easy to clean at all...so many areas for the litter to stick to, especially the rake!
My biggest concern with this product is that, without a thorough cleaning, there may be a risk of illness...
review »I have had two of these. The first one froze with the rake in the air about 3 months after I bought it and I could never get it to retract. The second one has been in use for over 18 months now and is great for keeping most of the material racked up. But as many people have stated, material does cake up on the rake and sometimes on the base or in a corner depending on how often and where your cats pee mostly. So I do periodically have to take a traditional litter rake to the base to losen material so the rake will catch it and rake it into the tub.
You do have to keep an eye on it if you...
