This thing works most of the time. When the rake scrapes through, it leaves the box top open at the end where it's supposed to just scoop it in, and as it slides back the box it's scooped into has a lid and that comes down. Well, it gets stuck constantly, so instead of having a nice clean litter box, you have a pile of crap that's been there a couple of days in a pile, and then the machine decides to leave the top up, so all you can smell throughout the house is that pile. We know when the machine has left the top up.
I guess on the opposite of that, at least, we also know when the machine has worked and the top comes down as the rake retracts, because it doesn't smell, so I guess that is one of the biggest bonuses. My mom would say it's just one more thing to have to clean, but it does help with the general upkeep.
