I have used the Littermaid Self Cleaner for the past 13 years that I have had my cats and this is one product that I could not do without. When I first found my 2 kittens I tried to keep a normal litter box and found I just couldn't keep it as clean as I wanted. This totally helped me get the cleaning and the litter box smell under control.

The Littermaid cleaner is so easy to use. Just fill with litter, put in a container to catch all the clumped litter and plug it in. The cleaner has sensor, so once your cat has done it's business it waits 10-15 minutes and then rakes up the clumps and dumps it in the disposable containers. Of course when the container is full you just put the lid on it and throw it away - or you can do like I do in order to save money and just take the container out, dump the waste in a plastic bag and put the container back in to reuse. I also add some baking soda to the container so they last longer. The containers can be expensive so it is a smart thing to reuse them as many times as you can.

I have found the cleaner requires very little maintance. I give it a good cleaning about once every few months. I also sprayed the bottom of the cleaner and the cleaning rake with a slicon type spray so clumps don't get stuck and helps with keeping everything clean. Littermaid does recommend that you use a premium litter but I found that's not really necessary. I use Tidy Cat or Arm and Hammer and both of those work just as well. I also truly believe that feeding your cat a good dry food like, Iams makes a really big difference in how clean everything stays. If I feed my cats canned food as a treat or change dry food clean up can be much worse since since their poop is more messy. But otherwise I find it requires almost no maintance.

Some people might find it noisy - but as with any type machine that is mechanical you are going to have some noise. I don't find it loud at all but then again, since I have used it for 13 years so I am used to it. My cats also have never been scared of the sound.

Bottom line is ---  I think if you have a cat or multiple cats this is really a must have!

Ha! I have 2 cats and a dog and I rescued the little kitten a few weeks ago from the side of the highway in a rainstorm. I know that stray, abused, lost, or homeless animals know where I am because I always find them and they always end up in my care. I will have to get one of these. The litter boxes I have are just gross even with a top thing so I don't have to see the contents. I still have to scoop, scoop, scoop or they won't...poop! lol lol.

I have added a kitten to my pack as well.... So 2 cats, 1 kitten and 1 dog. I think all the strays and lost animals have passed the word around that I am the one to come to if they need a good home! I hate cleaning litter boxes as well. Even though you still have to dump the container (or throw it out and put in a new one) with this it's much easier and less time consuming than the traditional way.

I need this. I have two cats and a kitten and I hate traditional litter boxes. Yuck.
