This litter box does scare some cats.

Because of the floor plan of my home I have to keep the cat box in my home office. Since it is in a room I typically spend several hours in each day I thought this litter box would be fantastic to keep the box clean and reduce odors. I'm sure this box would have probably done that if my cat would have been willing to use it. My husband and I tried all the little tips and tricks the manufacturer suggests to get our cat to use it. She was beyond terrified of the thing and refused to go in it. We finally had to send it back. When we called to get a return authorization number they indicated that a certain percentage of cats are just too scared to use this type of box. So we are not alone. I must commend the company for the fact that they would take an item like this back. We ended up being out something like $50 in shipping costs, but that was much better then being out a few hundred dollars for a cat box that was never going to be used.

Is there a way to tell if your cats are going to be skiddish towards it? We haven't tried any of the automated litter boxes yet and this one looks pretty neat and since one user said it works better than the littermaid products I thought maybe this would work, but not if our cats are going to be afraid of it. Does it make strange sounds or anything like that?
