I bought a Toshiba Satellite A75 laptop computer a couple years ago and it was being blown out at the office supply store where I bought it. It didn't sink in at the time, but the computer came with a replacement for the factory original power supply. The power supply that it was supplied with was a Lite-On PA-1121-08, which is a direct replacement for several models of Toshiba and Dell laptop power supplies.

What it is

The Lite-On PA-1121-08 is a brick-style power supply that's bigger than most laptop power supplies. This is due to the fact that the unit can supply 6.3 Amps at 19 Volts, a hefty amount for a laptop power supply. Besides a large information label on its black plastic case, the Lite-On PA-1121-08 is mostly featureless. At one end is a two-prong jack for an AC power cord and at the other end is a six-foot cable that plugs into the computer's power port.

The Lite-On PA-1121-08 works with my Toshiba Satellite A75 computer but its plug will not fit my Toshiba Tecra M2 or Satellite A105 computers. It's my understanding that the Lite-On PA-1121-08 costs around $60-70 at office supply stores. This is about twice the price that you can buy an original replacement power supply on eBay.

Using it

It's certainly not hard to use it: Plug the power connector into the computer and stab the AC power plug into a wall socket. There are no pilot lights on the unit or any other indication that it is working. The Lite-On PA-1121-08 has plenty of power to charge my laptop's battery even when I'm using the computer. The biggest downsides are that this Lite-On power supply gets fairly warm when the computer is running and that it's size is about 25 percent bigger than other laptop supplies. Otherwise, it's been reliable and it works great.

Summary

The Lite-On PA-1121-08 is powerful and reliable, and certainly powers up my computer with no problem. I'd certainly consider buying another if I lost the one I have, providing the original Toshiba supply is not available.

I recommend the Lite-On PA-1121-08 laptop power supply.

Lite-On's Web site listed the models that this power supply works with, although it was hard to find exactly the right spot on the Web site. If you need help in tracking it down, let me know and I'll try to find the page. --Bob

I wonder if this will fit my Dell Ispiron.? I want a back up. All my power supplies go poof and this one looks like it is starting to already.

I take your word on it. You always steer me right on tech items.
