Bottom Line: I like the SHM-165 Drive w/ LightScribe. Together with the bundled software, the SHM-165 Drive w/ LightScribe is a hard bargain to pass up for the serious user with an eye on DVD and or VCD creation and editing. As I stated in my review: Windows Vista: You will Most Likely Need an Upgrade in Hardware, Microsoft has upped the hardware ante for the new Operating System (OS). A plain ole CD-ROM will no longer be enough to install the OS, you will need a DVD drive for the chore for a number of reasons. So when it came time for me…

I purchased my Lite On Dvd Writer at Walmart for a fairly reasonable price. It has been about 3 years since this purchase so of course there are faster writers on the market today. However, I have had nothing but the best service from this writer. — It is dual layer compatable which is a huge plus. The blank, dual sided, discs are rather pricey still but it's worth it as you can burn twice the amount of data on one disc. — Recently I had a small problem with a disc I was using.
