* Opaque black brew with towering frothy tan head. Nice lacing.
* Sweet malt nose has nougat and molasses aroma.
* Full sweet malt foretaste has cocoa powder and nougat flavor...reminiscent of a Three Musketeers candy bar.
* Sweet liqueurish coffee flavor (think Kahlua) has great length. Very malt oriented.
* Full bodied; silky mouthfeel. Low carbonation.
Synhopsis:
This stout is an excellent example of the "Foreign Style Stout" beer category (along with Dragon Stout from Jamaica and Tooth's Sheaf Stout from Australia). Stouts made in this style are neither dry like Irish stouts, nor are they cloyingly sweet like London-style stouts brewed with lactose sugar. They tend to be both malty sweet and roasty flavored at the same -and they typically have some heft with requisite alcohol content. In the case of Lion Stout, the A.B.V. (alcohol by volume) is 8%, though you'd never know it.
