I bought my Linksys wireless router about 3 years ago for about $75. It was the first one I had ever purchased so I don't know that I can write a real effective review. I don't really have anything to compare to, but I think I have got a good life expectancy, thus far.
Having said that, I can comment that I have been pleased with the router. It works effectively for our 1200 square foot home. We have 3 laptops utilizing the wireless, and it seems to do very well.
The unit is thin and fits nicely next to the computer. I haven't had any trouble with it overheating or getting to warm to the touch (although I don't stack anything on top of it).
I have had some issues where one of the laptops won't connect to the internet, and I can't figure out why. If I just unplug all the cables from the Linksys and reset it, life goes back to normal. The frustrating part is that I don't know why this happens. I would prefer to understand what causes the need to reset so I can avoid having the issue to begin with.
