One of the best Sim-Dual band out there!

5

This is a great router if you can get it at a discount! Just make sure you get Version 2! Version 2 WRT610n has the same exact specs as the more expensive e3000!! The only difference is the software used. The e3000 has what's called virtual memory add-on which 99% of internet users wouldn't even know how to utilitize. Besides that, the WRT610n is one of the fastest available on the market as of March 2011. For those that are expect users you can actually "Flash" the wrt610n into a e3000! This requires more than just basic networking knowledge but, can be done by anyone if they can closely follow instructions which are readily available on the internet. But for those that want a very solid multifunctioning router, I recommend doing an easy firmware upgrade to an open source router frimware such as DDWRT or TomatoUSB. I installed TomatoUSB on mine because it is an easy upgrade and very solid with great QOS features. There is actually a code out there that makes setting up a great standardized QOS settings in which all you have to do is copy and paste. Lastly, the USB allows hard drive access and printer access. Lastly, there is an easy antenna mod that can increase the range of this.

Fast, reliable, relatively sleek and attractive

I've been using this router for two and a half years now and it has run like a dream for most of that time. This router has tons of nice features that make it worth its while: 1) USB connection for sharing networked hard drives (I think it even supports FTP but I didn't try) 2) Gigabit Ethernet switch 3) Now has DD-WRT support 4) 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n support. It also supports simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11n which is nice to have. An early version of the firmware would crash when using both at the same time but this hasn't happened for at least a year. When using it I've noticed it can get pretty warm but does not crash. I think there is now a newer dual-band top-of-the-line Linksys router, the E3000, which is supposed to be better but if you can get this router for a good deal I would recommend it. One additional comment from others I know that have used this router and others: the range is apparently not as good as the previous generation, the WRT600N (which is now discontinued).

Nice with third party firmware

This is a solid router with very good hardware feature but it is been holding back by the factory firmware. I tried just using the Linksys Firmware, and it was barely passable. It does work ok for normal routing and needs occasional reset over the weeks. However, after I downloaded the DD-WRT open-source firmware and flashed it from the web admin page of the router, it really flies. There is a huge difference. A almost quite night and day difference! The third party firmware totally unleash the full potential of this router and make it some much more powerful in turn of feature and wireless amplification. The switch part of this router is good too. I would definitely recommend it with the third party firmware.  Too bad Cisco decided to end-of-life this series of router and start a new branding on the E-series. The E2000 is pretty much a rebadged version of this particular design. So, if you can live with flashing third party firmware and all the risk associated, this is recommended.

Nice Linksys WRT610N router

We bought this router because we thought is would be the best and the quickest wifi router available at that time. We own it almost one year now. We are using it for two computers and one printer. Setting up the wireless network wasn't difficult and it was an easy start. But sometimes we have issues with a very slow network and we just cannot figure it out what the reason is for the fact that our network is so slow. Is it due to the provider of the internet or is it this wireles router? Maybe this router is very sensitive and therefore it is easy to disturb and is this the reason for running slow. Well maybe we will know when we are going to move next year. Anyway I think that a router should be not noticable and I would have rated this router 5 stars if I forgot I had it.  I have to admit that I like the design of the router. I know that, this is ofcourse not very important but the router is standing visible next to the television.
