Linksys Model: WRT54G Review Summary

Tech and non-tech-savvy reviewers alike regard the Linksys WRT54G Wireless Access Point/ Router/ Switch, "easy to configure" and say it “works great.” The Linksys WRT54G offers advanced features, is easy set-up and configuration, and offers the latest (WPA2) wireless security protocols. I purchased my WRT54G nearly two years ago.  At that time, I had a Belkin G which had replaced my Hawkins G router. Between the three, the Linksys was the greatest.  I popped the Linksys right out of the box and plugged it in.  And it worked.  Simplicity at it's greatest.   It's been the most reliable...

My last Linksys router was a BEFSR41 (wired, with a WAP54G wireless access point connected to one of the ports) ; it worked flawlessly, until I bought my Sony LoctaionFree system (see my review of that unit). I needed UPNP (Universal Plug aNd Play) for the router to work with the Sony, so I updated...

When we first moved into our new house we ordered Internet from SKT. We were told in order to hook up both computers it would be an additional $5 per month, so I went in search of a router. I had only a few choices at the time and after reading the packages I settled for the Linksys WRT54G router. I am happy with my choice of the linksys router and also with the ease of setup. It has paid for itself by saving me that $5 per month my ISP wanted.

    The setup

Setup was simple enough with the cd enclosed and the step by step directions. Even for those not used to doing these installs...

This is an awesome router.  It  has  four  ports  in  the  back  to  connect  by wire  and  allows  you to  also  connect  wirelessly.  The router  helps  boost up speed  and  allows fast  networking. The  setup  for the router was made easy through a  step  by step process, but came across some problems  with the  setup  detecting the  router, but  it eventually found it after a while of messing  with it.  Overall it is a great router for the price of it!

Put simply this is THE EASIEST router to configure.  The wizard is very helpful for the 1st time user, and the menus are straightforward with what the function does.  The help on the side of the page is very insightful as to how to get done what you want, excellent explainations of what specific functions do.  I have bought nothing but Linksys and will always buy nothing but Linksys.

In so many products and services, things are expected to go smoothly.  Some necessities are taken for granted and not thought about, until they cease to work.  At the top of the list of things like that is the wireless router.  People expect to hop online to check email, go to their favorite websites, or watch a video clip with ease and speed.  Linksys' Wireless G WRT54G is a device that allows for just that.  It's a budget router, small and simple and not top of the line.  It is reliable, though, and that's really what everyone wants in a router.

The WRT54G has an ethernet input to connect...

I bought this router as a replacement for a different Lynksy, the old one was a one antenna, and i figured if it was good, then the 2 antenna one was better.

WE have 2 PC's in the house now, and a laptop, plus friends that visit have laptops. WE can run them all at the same time off this, no matter where in the house and paviallion.

I like the ease of installation, ease of hooking up to my main PC, and the way we can use wireless or direct feed, to the other PC

Have found direct feed to the other PC works bette than wireless, plus we did nhot have to buy a wireless card for the other PC.

This model of the Linxsys Wireless Router has been a great addition to my family's computer accessories.  We are able to use our desktop computers and our laptops anywhere in the house which sufficiently allows my family to do what we need to do at any time that's best for each of us without disturbing the others. It's sleek and compact which is great because it fits perfectly where we have it in our Family Room and it has worked very well in the time we've had it. It was cost efficient so we didn't have to incur exorbitant expense to get the quality we need and deserve and that's great.  We've... review »

Got this from circuitcity after returning my NETGEAR WGR614 which had intermittent disconnections on a DSL line. The netgear was working well for few days and then started disconnecting intemittently and i have to restart the router to get it to work which defeats the purpose of WIRELSS.  Then I found this great wireless piece which worked continuously with out any problems.

Has been using for 8 months and i rarely faced any problem.

Supports wide range of security options for wireless encryption.

Maybe the router was cheap enough, and maybe it worked okay for awhile, but getting any of the online updates for this piece of trash was impossible. The customer "service" is non-existant. Trying for over one year to get anything from the "help" lines was like trying to make the sun rise in the west and set in the east. No matter how good the product ever gets, avoid this customer "service" challenged crap at all costs.

The Linksys router with install CD makes it very simple for any first time user.
For those who have set up wireless systems before the menus are easy to follow to set up your own IP address and encryption.
The strongest feature is the secure easy set up function.  This makes it very easy to add other wireless devices to the system.  I did this for a wireless ink jet printer and it was ready in a matter of minutes.

I recently set up a home network for my new high speed internet connection. In doing research on the topic, it seeemed that Linksys had a good reputation. So I figured I would give it a try. The router was easy to install, and I started using it right away. Everything performed to my expectations. The EasyLink advisor software is extremely helpful with setup and adding additional computers. I would definitely recommend this product!

I upgraded to this model from an earlier Linksys router, hoping their Tech support was right, and that a newer model would solve chronic connectivity losses. It didn't. This router is faster, but I have to disconnect it from its power source and let it re-set at least once every other day. Customer support is always polite, but I do spend a lot of time on hold. Figure at least 30 minutes per call, sometimes more than an hour.

My IT professional at work suggested this product for my home use.  After pricing at many stores I can safely say don't pay over $50.00 it is everywhere.  It supports my VPN for the office and was easy to set the encrypted lock out, all I had to do is push a button.  I would recommend for individuals who use and need a wireless computer but are not knowledgeable about the technical end.

The linksys routher is a great product that the cable company do not tell you you can get and use with out there service.  I had to find our from a friend.  It is wonderful to network within your home between a desktop and laptop.  They are not that expensive either.  It will sit right on top of your CPU.  You can't go wrong by purchaing a Linksys router.
