When we first moved into our new house we ordered Internet from SKT. We were told in order to hook up both computers it would be an additional $5 per month, so I went in search of a router. I had only a few choices at the time and after reading the packages I settled for the Linksys WRT54G router. I am happy with my choice of the linksys router and also with the ease of setup. It has paid for itself by saving me that $5 per month my ISP wanted.

    The setup

Setup was simple enough with the cd enclosed and the step by step directions. Even for those not used to doing these installs it was quite easy. You have your choice of installing a wireless as well and that was a big plus, as my wife and I both have a laptop. Once I had one computer installed and running I hooked up the wireless part and went through the router setup.

The wireless part was as flawless as the router and I was done in about 20 minutes. That was including setting up a secure network. I have had my router for just over 2 years and have had no problems to speak of. Only 2 problems come to mind and they are minor. First when you loose electricity you need to hit the reset on the router. That takes about 1  minute to reset and your settings are saved in the router. The other problem came when my ISP upgraded their stuff and the router would not recognize the new setup.

I went to the the linksys site and found an update they had just released. I downloaded it in just a few minutes. Fortunately I could still use the cable modem to do so. After I had it installed which took about 5 minutes I reconnected the router. It was back up and running with no problems.

The router has 2 antennas on it to connect the wireless function and they do their job well. You can adjust them in different directions for best signal. However I have them pointed straight up and have not had any issues with the wireless function.

     Bottom Line

You can hardwire up to 4 connections with the linksys which is nice if you have more than one pc to set up. The instructions are easy to follow and the update feature is nice, because drivers are constantly updated as technology increases. With the wireless setup you not only have the freedom to move around the house, you also have the linksys secured network to keep your connection private.

I would recommend this router to anyone that needs a router and wants reliability as well. If I can hook this thing up anybody can, it is a simple as following the directions.
