We visited the Lincoln Park zoo on a hot afternoon in August 2008.  I had this on my list as a last day type of thing because you have to drive from it or otherwise take transportation to it since it is about 15-20 minutes from downtown Chicago.

The Zoo is free but pricey. The Zoo itself is free and they love to use that as their selling point, however parking will cost you.  The buses may be cheaper, but we decided it was worth driving there so we could just head home afterward.  Food will also cost you A LOT.  We got 2 slices of pizza and 2 slushies for $17!  That is a lot if you ask me. ...

For those visiting Chicago (or those that live in Chicago), the Lincoln Park Zoo offers a great cultural experience for FREE!

There are a ton of positives. There are far too many positives to list. Among them-- the zoo is free. Did I mention free? It is also located right on the lake. It has an amazing collection of primates (recently redone in the last few years) as well as all the usuals- penguins, wolves, eagles, snakes, giraffes, tigers, lions, bears (oh my!) etc. The museum also has a beautiful but separate botanical building that houses a gorgeous collection of flowers and plants.

There...

The zoo is a great treat when visiting the city. It's free and on the bus route so it is easy to get to from almost any location in the city or north side of Chicago.

There is a farm, which is fun. I love to see the peguins. Also the tigers are just great.

In the fall and winter months, the zoo rents out a lot of the animals and the exhibits are left empty. So you may have walked to the back of the zoo to find out the giraffes are not there.

It's a good idea to print an online map before you arrive as they are hard to find once you arrive at the zoo. The gift shop is rather expensive, but most...

I love Lincoln Park Zoo. It's a perfect place to go when the weather is nice! It's not going to be the best zoo you've ever been too but it is definitely worth the trip. My husband and I spent our first date there walking around the zoo, sipping hot chocolate, during their annual Zoo Lights. It was very romantic! Parking on the weekend can be a bit hairy - but the parking lot rate is reasonable considering the zoo is free. So pack a picnic and bring the kids and have a great time! Definitely take a ride on the merry-go-round too! And walk through the gardens and bask in the sun - it's a great...

Ok, nature is out there, so why pay to see it. Well In Lincoln Park zoo. Its free. And its always open. You do have to pay for parking. Or you can just park on the street not to far from there. I love taking the kids there. Its pretty much the same, but at the same time its not. Theres always alot of new editions to the zoo.And theres always Zoo lights. Its around the christmas time. The zoo is decorated with tons of lights and decorations. And theres free activities for the kids. Its really fun. Not far from the lake. And theres also cafe shops or if its to much for you, bring your own picnic.... review »

Whether you live in Chicago or you are just visiting this is a must! This is a real zoo and it's free. The exhibits are amazing and the grounds are clean. You can spend all day here. Checkout the petting zoo, swan boats and Cafe. Even on the nicest days inteh summer I have never seen it over crowded.

I love this zoo - it's always so much fun.  It's free to get in, and the food/snacks/drinks are reasonably priced.  The zoo lights in the winter are awsome too!
