Lidoderm
(Lidocaine Patch 5%)

I have an illness called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), which there is no cure. I have tried just about every pain pill and most of them are too strong for my stomach. The only pain pill I'm able to keep down is Neurontin. My pain specialist suggested the Lidoderm Patch five months ago. It is a prescription medicine that is used to relieve pain usually associated with Shingles. It has recently been prescribed for people with CRPS to help reduce the sharp, burning, and aching pain.

Lidoderm is a local anesthetic (numbing) medication. It works by blocking nerve signals in your body. It is not a narcotic. Each adhesive patch contains 700mg of lidocaine. Do NOT apply the Lidoderm Patch to swollen, raw or blistered skin. You should never use this product if you are sensitive to local anesthetics such as lidocaine.

It is easy to apply and remove the Lidoderm Patch. The patch is thin and has no odor to it. You can wear the patch under your clothing. The patch is sealed in an envelope. 1) Cut along the dotted line to remove the patch from the envelope. You can cut into smaller sizes with scissors before removal of the clear plastic backing. 2) Remove the clear plastic backing before applying the patch to the skin. Apply immediately after removal from the protective envelope. 3) You can only apply up to three patches at one time. Leave the patch on for 12 hours and you have to wait another 12 hours before applying another patch. Never reuse a patch. Remove patch immediately if irritation occurs.

Redness or swelling of the skin where the medication was applied may occur. I haven't had any reactions while using the Lidoderm Patch. If you have an allergic reaction to the medicine, contact your physician immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include a rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Keep both used and unused Lidoderm Patch out of the reach of children or pets. The amount of lidocaine in the patches could be harmful to a child or pet who accidentally sucks on or swallows the patch. Fold used patches so that the adhesive side sticks to itself.

I usually put the Lidoderm Patch on before I go to bed to give me more comfort while I‘m sleeping. I trim off approximately ½ inch on each side of the patch for a better fit on my foot. When you first apply the patch to the skin, it is cold. It doesn't take long before I start to feel it working. I wear one of these patches once a day.

As a patient who has been using the Lidoderm Patch, I would recommend it for nerve pain or neuropathic pain. I give it 4 stars!

When I wrote this review the Lidoderm Patch was helping the pain. Now, my RSD has gotten worse and the Patch has not helped with the pain in months. My foot is having serious sensitivity right now. I would definitely mention Lidoderm Patch to Kevin's pain doctor it may be something that would help him. The only reason it is not helping me anymore is my condition has gotten worse. ;-)

Very good helpful review, krislynn. I haven't written reviews in awhile either. Time for me to get those drafts finished. I'm glad you found something that helps you. I'll show you're review to Kevin. Maybe he'll mention it to his pain management doctor.

I am now seeing a Pain Specialist. He was the one that suggested the Lidoderm Patch. I wear them every day for 12 hours. I hope you are able to use them. The patch eases the severe pain I have. Thank you for reading and sending me a comment! Have a great weekend and Easter! :-)

I've never heard of this before, but I plan to ask my neuro if it would be helpful for MS pain. Thanks for such an informative review.

Thank you! I hope your daughter's teacher gets better. The Lidoderm patch has been a lifesaver during my most severe pain. Thank you for reading! :-)

Great review--my daughter's teacher recently had surgery on her arm and has had multiple problems. They think that she has some sort of nerve damage from the surgery. I thought of you when I heard that.
