Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Very easy to setup. WiFi is good. Have had to contact customer service 3 times and they are always very helpful. When I originally purchased this all in one I was able to use ink purchased from another source at a much reduced cost. Then when I updated my firmware one day that came to an end. Lexmark printers will now only work if you use their ink. And naturally they make money on their ink which is very expensive. I am very disappointed at their decision and I will never purchase another Lexmark printer again. I believe in free market and they have taken away my right to use the ink of my choice. I have used the fax / scan / copy and print features and have had minimum trouble. Usually, it just needs a reboot and that will clear up the issue. Ink/Paper Use Can only use Lexmark brand of ink. Ink is very expensive.

This printer is great as long as its working

This printer is awesome.... as long as it is working! I have only had the printer for a month and I have had to call customer service twice to get the software updated. I think that is very rediculous. Though I have had great customer service, I think that there is no reason that I should have to be calling them so often to get a connection between my computer and printer. Now, besides that problem, and when the printer is working, it is amazing. I love having the wireless connection. I love being able to print freely and easily. It is very convenient to print whenever, wherever. The cost of ink really isn't that bad - I actually am able to purchase the ink on 3rd party websites for a fraction of the cost. I really hope that customer service is able to fix my problem and that I will not have to make another call for help. I think that is unacceptable and I think that Lexmark has realized that.

Lexmark Prospect Pro205 is Pro-blematic

I am reviewing the Lexmark Pro205 because I want others to be aware of the pros and cons of this printer.  I have never purchased a Lexmark before and was talked into it by the salesperson who said it was a great printer and one of the few that comes with a 5 year warranty.  I normally purchase HP printers.  I wanted a printer that my kids could use wirelessly also.  I also liked that it scans, and can send and receive faxes. I am not terribly computer-savy.  I use my computer mostly for email and research.  I depend on my printer to print coupons and documents and to make copies when needed.  I have not used this printer wirelessly or set up the fax yet. The best thing about this the set up.  The set up disk walks you through everything in a very easy to follow manner.  Another great thing is that it has wireless capability, can print, scan, copy and fax.  And to be more economical and green, it has 2-sided printing.  I did use that for my family Christmas letter this year and it was Great! Now for the cons:  The first Lexmark Pro205 I purchased had to be returned because the printing did not come out correctly.  It always cut off the end of certain rows of printing. The store exchanged it and this one has even more issues, but it is now beyond the return date.  Often times the printer just decides not to print.  I can only get it working again by shutting down  my entire computer.  Other times the black ink just stops for no apparent reason.  Again, if I shut everything down, including the printer, that helps.  One time I thought maybe I was already out of ink and took the cartridge to the store for a refill.  The salesperson tried it in their Lexmark printer and it worked fine.  That is how I knew for sure it was the printer and not the cartridge. I have to say that I will never buy another Lexmark printer.  And anyone who does buy this one should use it as much as possible in the first couple of weeks while it can still be returned if you run into issues.  It didn't sound like getting it fixed would be an easy thing to do.  So needless to say I am not impressed.  I will continue to use it as long as I can keep it working and then will trade it in with the extended warranty I purchased through the store. Buyers beware.

Most awful, but good when it wants to work

I got this printer several months ago for free with a purchase of a computer. I see now why they were giving it out for free. This is by far the worst printer i have ever used. Although it touts being able to scan, fax, copy and all sorts of other things, it simply does not stand out. This printer tends to not work a lot of time and paper gets easily jammed in the printer when doing a job. The copier works moderately well and its easy to change the ink cartridge, but everything else about this just sucks. On a countless number of occassions, this printer simply does not respond when you click on it to do something. A restart of the computer usually solves the problem temporarily till it starts acting up again. After restarting the computer, the printer THAN chooses to start working once more. This printer has been nothing but a headache and i would strongly advise anyone to avoid purchasing or getting this printer, even if its free. It would be a great paperweight.

I love being able to have wireless capability with my printer.  It is very easy to add computer to the network and you can print documents throughout the house.  However, this printer has a lot of print head issues.  I'm on my second print head and having problems again - such as the print head is not functioning and you have to check the user's guide.  Then it will say that the print head is not compatible with your all in one even though you've been printing with it for awhile.  You get tired of having to keep taking the print head out and cleaning it after printing a few sheets of paper.

Works pretty good !

I bought this printer to replace my big HP Officejet that was too expensive to use because of the cost of ink. I saw this one at a good price and I also like that there is only 4 ink cartridges unlike my HP which has heads and cartridges. First off the printer set is extremely easy including the wireless setup. I am computer savvy so I don't have problems with this type of thing, but for some who is not it would be a breeze to install. The disk walks through the entire process step by step that you can't make a mistake. The print quality is actually better than my officejet which cost four times more. I find that all the functions are easy to use. Whether I am faxing, copying or scanning the process if simple and easy. There is also a slot for a memory card if you want to print pictures. All in all I am happy with the printer so far. I would definitely recommend this printer to anyone as it is not complicated to use.

A printer for a beginner / home office!

I am a returning grad student and found this printer met 97% of my needs to print research resources.  Terrific for printing double side, saves on paper, and the ink last at least two quarters. Thanks lexmark
