My Lenovo Thinkpad r61i laptop was an excellent investment.

I am very happy with my Lenovo R-series laptop.  It was, by far, the best value.  I was able to customize my laptop to be built for my needs.  I needed a lot of storage for pictures so I was able to add extra memory.  I could even customize the operating system...I'm an XP fan and while other companies were only selling Vista...Lenovo would build my machine with XP.   I travel with my laptop frequently and the ONLY complaint I had was the AC adapter wore out rather quickly.  ( likely from being packed in and out of the laptop case). I bought a universal adapter with a more flexible connector and have had no issues since.  The battery life on the Lenovo is awesome.  I am often still typing while friends with other brands are searching for their cords.   The built-in wi-fi and "Thinkvantage" program make finding and connecting to other networks easy.   Lenovo also has something called "Lenovo care" which is a diagnostics program built-in.  This makes trouble shooting a breeze!   On top of that, their customer service is OUTSTANDING!  I once had my operating system completely crash.  I called Lenovo's customer care to assist and even though it wasn't, technically, their issue..their service guy walked me through step by step allowing me to SAVE all my information and settings before completely reinstalling Windows.  This was a lifesaver to me...I was very concerned about losing family pictures and was able not only to access them, but to save them to an external drive before the reinstall.  I've never experienced friendlier tech support.  Their support team is US based as well...which, if you've ever called overseas for a tech issue only to struggle with the language barrier.......this makes a HUGE difference.   They truly did not have to help me with an issue that was not related directly to their machine.  They not only helped, but went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied.    I didn't give 5 stars because of the power cord, but that easily could have been overuse on my part.  Otherwise, Lenovo has my vote.  I would definitely buy from this company again and have recommeneded their products to others.  My R61i comes with a built in webcam for teleconferencing or chat. It is equipped with internal wi-fi, as well as bluetooth capabilities.  One can customize the memory, harddrive, processor etc. , so I really can't give you a "standard" on that.  I loved the fact that I could build my machine to fit my needs.  Lenovo did a great job.  The value is outstanding...I could not have bought a pre-built machine with the same specs as my Lenovo for the price I paid.  Excellent value.  Fabulous customer service.  Quick delivery ( I ordered mine online).  I am one very satisfied customer.

A solid computer system that has not given any trouble

Purchased the R61e via the lenovo web site specifically for the Win XP OS.  Not many places offer windows XP as an operating system.  The XP system was a requirement as various business applications required windows XP to run properly. There was a bit of confusion with the ship date, their estimate pre-order being 2 weeks and after order almost a month. Since there were no additional options, I found the change in ship date annoying since I required this as a work computer on a business trip.  However the laptop arrive in two weeks like originally promised. After a year of operation there has been no problems with the system.  No crashes or Blue screen of Death.  Keyboard has not shown significant wear Draw backs I encountered with this system was the lack of an SD card slot, so I can transfer pictures to the laptop, and the fact there is supposed to be some sort of integrated camera which I was never able to locate or get into operation. Having only 3 USB ports has occasionally been a problem. No serial port and no mouse port were minor surprises, as I had to ditch the PS2 mouse and use a USB Wireless mouse, filling one precious USB port.

this computer is essentially indestructible

I was a little concerned when IBM announced that it will let the company Lenovo takeover its laptop production. However Lenovo has quickly become one of my favorite brands of computers. I currently own the R 61 and use it for work. This is my go to computer. Even though I have a much more powerful desktop, I often find myself taking this out of the bag to use it. One of my favorite things about this computer it's the fact that it can't be destroyed. I have dropped his computer accidentally on several occasions. The most the computer has gotten is a small crack in the casing. However the computer still functions as if it was brand-new. Of course Lenovo computers are not cheap. One I did think about giving this product one must start because of its price, I did not because I feel like you get everything that you pay for. If you need an excellent laptop that's almost indestructible and will last you forever, this is the computer to get.

My Thinkpad R61 is a heavy but dependable computer.

I bought my Lenovo Thinkpad R61 a few years ago because I wanted quality and dependability.  I got that in spades but it comes at a cost. First off, this computer is heavy.  If you have to lug it around a lot, you will wonder why you didn't get a lighter computer.  Luckily I don't lug mine around a lot - I use it around the house mostly. Battery life is somewhat short, but then again my battery's a few years old now.  When it was new it was decent but not great.  The screen is large and easy to read.  I don't have any glare issues to report.  In direct sunlight it gets washed out but that doesn't concern me. It has been very reliable with the exception of the hard drive.  The stock hard drive was a Hitachi and it failed on me, eating some Alaskan vacation pictures with it.  Replacing the drive with a quality Western Digital drive wasn't expensive but it makes me wonder why Lenovo didn't buy a better hard drive to install in the first place. My R61 has plenty of USB connectors and feels very sturdy, unlike many consumer laptops.  If you want a workhorse and are Ok with it being heavy, I'd recommend a Thinkpad.

This is a great machine but the weight is a problem.

I got this PC about a year and a half ago and it is still running great. My model has a built in "roll cage" which will protect it well expecially with how clumsy i am but ultimately it is just too heavy. If It was a more stationary laptop it would be fine but i bring it to school with me every day which makes it a problem for me. But the overall performance, if weight isn't an issue, Is very good. The display is very nice and things run fast. The sound is also good and goes up pretty loud. It is very nice to watch movies on it. So i would probably give it a four star rating because now it is more obsolete even after only about two years so it could have a better processor but overall it is still fine. The price is pretty high i paid about 1700 i think then maybe it is lower now but you can get a better dell for that price now so even though i like this computer, my next would be something more like a dell.

Best laptop I've ever owned!!!!!

Wow.  The Lenovo R61I is, hands-down the best laptop I've had.  It came with 3 GB of RAM and a 160 GB HDD.  After the HDD died, I upgraded to a 500 GB HDD but everything else is great.  The best thing I can say is that it is resilient.  I had an air conditioning unit dump a couple gallons of water on top of this machine and I thought it was a goner.  I took it apart (the manual tells you how) and dried out all the pieces.  Put it back together and, lo and behold, ti fired right up and I'm using it now.  The fingerprint reader is nice for those who have multiple user accounts and don't really like the "click and type" method of logging in, as it recognizes your print and logs you in to your account.  Manuals and documentation are superb.  The users guide walks you through tearing the machine down as far as you're comfortable with, even to the point of removing and replacing the LCD screen (not just the top half).  The only downside to this PC is that it doesn't come with a back-up copy of the original software.  But if you call Lenovo during the warranty period, they will send you the disks free of charge just for the asking.  (Would have liked to have known this before the HDD crash, but you'll be informed now.)  All in all, a great investment in a quality laptop at a very fair price.

I would pick it before many others.

The leveno r6li is the best laptop I have ever had. I enjoy all of the features it came with and all that Ihave available to download. I also like the way the keyboard is set up. The keys are spaced well. It also has a few ways to control the pointer. There is the touch-pad, the center button in the middle of the keys, and of course the mouse. The screen dimension is excellent. It even has a built in light so that you can still type in the dark. The graphics are great. It also has a decent battery life. It has good memory and RAM. It must because I create my websites on this laptop and they are usually big files. I have at least seven computers running in my house, and if I get the chance to get on one I go to this one. As a matter of fact I am using it right now to write this review. As you can see this laptop is amazing. There are very few things about this laptop that I don't like. One thing is that the speakers are not made for much but all laptops are like that. However, it is still an amazing computer.
