A little pokey, but a great device nonetheless

After dealing with the MSI Wind U100, I was hooked on the idea of netbooks and wanted my own. I ended up picking up the Lenovo S10-3 over Black Friday for a steal. It runs Windows 7 Starter, has 1GB of DDR3 RAM, 3 USB ports and even N wifi. The specs are pretty decent, which is partly because it runs Windows 7. That does happen to my biggest gripe with it. Sadly, without any hacks, you can't change the wallpaper because that is one of the major limitations of Windows 7 Starter. I don't mind the lack of Aero or Media Center, because I doubt it could handle those, but the lack of a wallpaper really sours the mood. But the 6-cell battery allows for plenty of use and using the Ctrl+Alt+Arrow Key shortcut, makes it a great reader for eBooks in a punch. Grabbing the Intel AppUp program lets you grab programs designed specifically for netbooks and gives this even more use. The touchpad can be a bit troublesome to use, but the drivers are VERY customizable to make up for it. I'd still recommend a good small wireless mouse.

Lenovo S10 is a great netbook

I recently purchased the Lenovo S10 red netbook.  I could not be happier with this computer.  I was not expecting much, but this computer is as good as any that I have ever used.  The two obvious pluses are the price and the size.  On these two points, it definitely  did not dissapoint.  I use this machine in order to chack my e-mail and surf the internet.  I have had no problems with the speed or efficiency.  none at all.  In fact, I do not notice much of a difference between this pc nad my old dell full size notebook The size of the s10 is perfect.  It fits beautifully in my (large) purse, yet the screen and keyboard are large enough so that I do not feel handicapped by the small size.  I have found that the 160 gig hard drive is more than enough space to hold my documents and my itunes library, including my stored videos.  I would highly recommend the Lenovo s10 netbook to anyone that is looking for a high quality netbook!

At first, this netbook seems just about just right for college or on the go. Battery life lasted quite a long time, thats if you dim the light and set to powersaving. The bad thing about this netbook is that the keyboard is scaled about 80%, it feels different than a regular keyboard, typing essays on a netbook wont be as easy as you think it might be. i usually carry a set of keyboard and a mobile mouse with it because of how annoying it is. Overall its kind of like having a bigger version of an iphone with a touch pad and qwerty keys. everything doesnt fit properly like a regular notebook laptops. But for the price youre paying for, its useful for students and traveling. if you break it, just buy another.

Great for general internet surfing - lightweight for travel.

My husband's laptop crashed about a year ago.  Upon researching new laptops we decided that we could afford to purchase two netbooks for the price of one laptop.  I love my netbook.  I work on it each and every day to surf the web, check e-mail and do some word processing activities.  I keep it on the kitchen table.  My kids access children's activity websites using the netbook and I can easily supervise their online activity as I work in the kitchen.  I traveled internationally this past summer and brought my netbook with me.  It was so easy to carry in my hand baggage, and was light to remove to pass through the airport security checkpoint.  I highly recommend this product for anyone who needs a portable, lightweight computer for general web surfing.  The built-in webcam is wonderful for communication with loved ones who live abroad.  The battery life is satisfactory.  This is a great little netbook and I highly recommend it.

Compact but not very durable

I compared the different netbooks and decided on the Lenovo S10 Netbook based on the price and options available.  I was looking for something small that I could travel with and I really liked the red one.  However, after only 2 trips with the netbook, the cover started to crack on the front.  I carry the netbook in a well padded Sumo sleeve and never had this problem with my 2 year old HP laptop.   If you are looking for something to use to just look on the internet at home, this netbook would be a great choice.  However, if you plan to carry your netbook around a lot, I would go with the HP netbook.  Also, installing programs is a bit of a challenge since there is now cd-rom drive.  You will have to download programs from the internet or use a USB drive to add new programs to the netbook. I got a great deal on this netbook, but if I had to do it over again, I would have purchased the HP netbook because I have found them to be both efficient and durable.

Decent netbook for the price

I pre-ordered the Lenovo S10 back when netbooks were still new. It was more of a whim because lenovo was having a great sale with some cash back. I did not research the product at all before buying except that I had looked into buying the ASUS EEE PC earlier but never really commited because I was concerned about the memory. But when I saw this deal, I ordered it right away. It runs fairly well except that it does have problems running many programs at once. My 5 year old dell with 512G RAM had no problem running different programs. It also has issues when streaming videos on the net because the quality gets choppy, especially with firefox. If I do need to watch something I have to close all the unnecessary programs from task manager and then MAYBE the video will run fine. Lately I have been having issues during start up because I get a message saying that one of my disks needs to be checked for errors and it happens everytime i need to restart. I think I will have to find a way to reformat it to get rid of the message.

The Lenovo S10-2 - a great computer for users with limited needs

4

I've had my S10-2 ideapad for about a month now and am quite please with it in most respects.  It has pretty good battery life and although the keyboard is small, it took no time to get used to.  I use it for email, internet browsing, and other work (high school teacher) related things.  My one complaint is that sometimes when I put it in standby mode, it turns itself back on.  If the screen is closed when it does this, it gets quite warm.  Overall, its a very good little computer.

I just bought a Lenovo s10-3t, and it's really cool.

I just bought a Lenovo s10-3t. It's a tablet PC. It's small, and it has the versatility of operating as a netbook and with a flip of the screen, it's a tablet. I love the convenience to be able to move around so freely. Even though it's small, it still has the power to operate as a laptop. The keyboard takes a little getting used to because a couple of keys are pushed in, but after a week or so, you're good to go. The screen is sturdy and flips either way. I was looking into buying an iPad, but decided I wanted something with more options. It has an external monitor port and 2 USB ports, so it can be hooked up to other peripherals to make it even more versatile. The touch screen is really cool. It doesn't come with a stylus, which is a little disappointing, but again after a few days, I've gotten the hang of using my finger. The design is very sleek, and the computer is light. I would recommend this computer to people that are looking for something that can do a lot of main laptop functions but also has the convenience of an 'iPad' type of device, this one should work just right.

easy to carry

I bought this Netbook for my travel purpose. This Netbook is small; i can keep it any place in the bag. It never occupies space. It works with windows 7 enterprise, after installation it haven't slow down a bit. Over all it's the performance and for outside works this is a good netbook.

A great machine in a small frame..Very portable.!

Lenovo Ideapad S10-2 This is the newer version of the earlier S10 model. Im not much aware of the difference, but I think S10-2 is little lighter in weight. This machine is a piece of beauty. Ofcourse, the main attraction is its size and weight. Being a netbook, its very convenient to carry around, especially so if you want to make use of basic browsing and office stuff. Not meant for a heavy processing use, the Atom process does justice for net browsing and basic MS Office stuff. I have taken it to many places and have found it really handy especially at airports. The approx 10 inch (diagonal size) is good enough, although wouldn't mind for a larger screen within the given weight The standard battery is 3 cell and can dry out soon.. the additional (for a cost) 6 cell battery is lil bulky and can add weight to your netbook. Also, it is protuding towards the rear end of the netbook, looks lil awkward, but if you need a longer bettery life, then this is a must. Overall, I would rate this netbook full marks for its look, size and weight. I have Windows XP installed and do not find it heavy on the Atom processor. With so many different models of Netbook available in the market, do consider this one among the top 5. Thanks.
