Decent laptop

4

The G550 notebook computer from Lenovo is a good computer. Unfortunately it is not for sell anymore. It features a Intel Core 2 Duo processor at around 2GHz which is good for almost all your need including light gaming. You can customized the device with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. The screen is a 15.6 high definition LED backlight which means it is brighter and uses less power. The screen resolution is 1366x768. The graphics are only integrated. It is available as a NVIDIA GeForce G 105MB DDR2 or a Intel GMA 4500M/4500MHD integrated graphics. Integrated graphics are not good for gaming, but it helps with the battery life. The weight is on the heavy side of 5.62 pounds. The battery life is not as good as it claims. Overall, the computer is a great buy from Lenovo.

Exactly what i needed

First i will say this laptop was perfect for me and my needs but it may not be for everyone. This is definitely the best cheapest laptop i have found. I will point out what i specifically liked that other people may not like. The design, made out of sturdy plastic, no chrome, fancy designs, or tribal art. All black. 15.6" screen is pretty standard and not too big sitting in my lap on the couch. Only 2 usb inputs. Havent had an issue with only having 2 of these but im sure some people may. Headphone and microphone input on the front along with a wifi switch. DVD reader/writer. i am running office 2007 and have never had any speed issues. computer is pretty fast to boot and shutdown. my computer only had a 100gb hard drive but i see these for the same price with a 320 gb. i kinda wish i would have got a bigger one but they are easy to replace. my favorite part is Lenovo doesnt put a bunch of advertised software on their computers that slow it down. So theres not a huge need to delete unnecessary programs.

Lenovo G550 could be a lot better

2

This computer is fairly fast and the screen initially looks good, but since you have to clean a lot of garbage programs off of it, your initial impressions won't be that great. Naturally spending .10 for a windows DVD is too much for Lenovo--or they want to make it hard to clean off the useless trial programs--so you have to uninstall each item, and likely will never have a clean install on your machine. If you need to reinstall Windows you will have problems, but backing up your operating system with Lenovo's proprietary method will give you no security. I reccomend using third party software to blast away the recovery partition, and clone your C partition, once you have finally cleaned it up. Trying out the computer you will find that any intense use will turn on a rather loud fan, and that if the webcam wasn't useless this noise would make it so. The viewing angles for the screen are terrible. You will never see consistent colors. I would have gladly paid more for a machine free of ads and one with a usable screen and webcam.

Good quality for price

I bought this laptop over the summer to be able to use at college. I have had absolutely no problems with this computer. I got it at a fair discount, and it has absolutely been worth it. It does not have high end specs, but for anybody with normal usage, they are definitely more than adequate. I have no problems with it being able to run all of the many programs I routinely run. Most gamers, and potentially professional photographers that do a lot of editing would probably not like this, but for anything else it is good. My main complaint however is the battery life. It only last for a couple hours off of the charger. As I do not like for the battery to get run down too often, I typically try to use it while plugged in. I think that if they made a higher capacity battery for it, then I would have no complaints. One plus about it that most laptops lack is that is has a seperate numerical keypad. That is very useful.

Great college laptop if you're not into consumer Macs

I got this laptop for free from a Google/Lenovo mathematics award in my senior year.  I replaced my old Gateway Laptop with the Lenovo G550 and I am amazed by its performance considering it is "economy" priced.  It comes with a free trial of McAfee, Microsoft Office 2007, and Adobe Reader 9.  It has a webcam and built-in microphone.   With the webcam, you can log-in with Veriface (after set up).  The best feature of this laptop is the One-key Recovery program that comes with this laptop.  It allows you to quickly backup your files or restore your laptop to factory settings easily.  It is also accessible using the small button next to the power button in the event that it isn't possible to access from the desktop.  I have had to use this feature once when my laptop went haywire from all the programs I had to install for school.  This is key feature is definitely a plus for any college student who wants to keep many files backed up and easily recovered.

The Lenovo G550 is Incredible

5

I had actually won this laptop at my graduation for Highschool, and i had never heard of the brand name.  I really didn't expect much out of it, but it turns out to be pretty awesome.  As soon as i turned it on, i was quickly impressed.  What i liked the most about it was it's on board webcam, and face recognition technology.  To log on you can either choose to type in your password, or have it recognize your face! Awesome!  Although it doesn't work in all types of light, it is still an impressive feature, but typing in your password is usually the fastest most effective way.  The 3gb ram brings impressive internet speeds, and was easily connected to my wireless network.  The battery life is decent, and has been great for taking on the road and getting some school work done.   In all, although this is not a well known laptop brand, it is worth every penny, and if i had to come back to this brand i would.

awesome laptop

This laptop is excellent. It is fast, fairly light weight and has a full keyboard. Windows 7 is actually very good and you can split the screen to have the web on one side and word or excell on the other side. This works out well for me because I'm a student and have to write papers often. The laptop is very portable and is easy to take with you to panera or a starbucks. The one drawback about this laptop is that it has a slightly low battery life. I can get about an hour out of it without having to plug it in. I know other laptops have longer lives. I have had this for about a month and have had no problems and really like it. I got the computer for around 650 from a friend who builds computers and i am not sure what the computer goes for in a store, however it is worth every penny. I have had hp and dell computers and nothing compares to this one. I highly recomend it to anyone who ls looking for a great laptop!

You get what you pay for

I got a brand new system and the first day itself without too many applications running on it, it started heating up. its been up for around 3 hours or so. Also lenovo has a bad service. It takes more than a month to deliver the product. It ships from China. Doesnt care from where it ships but more than a month for a p;roduct sucks.   But for the price of 500 bucks its what you get.

We've loved our Lenovo Notebook!

5

We purchased our Lenovo G550 (2958FDU) PC Notebook three months ago when our other notebook was having many problems and this computer has been amazing in comparison!  It works extremely well and doesn't overheat or shut down randomly like other computers we've had in the past.  It is completely quiet and doesn't even sound like it's turned on.  I am on a computer for about twelve hours a day with lots of windows open and many excel spreadsheets open at the same time and this notebook has been able to handle this extreme stress very well.  There is plenty of space on this computer so you definitely won't have to worry about running out of space for all of your files and such.  I really like that the keyboard has a ten-key on the right side which makes it so much easier to enter lots of numbers.  I expect this computer to last for many years and would highly recommend purchasing this model.

Can Believe how big the screen is!

5

So I just had my birthday, I had an old hp notebook that when it got hot it cut off and the battery was so bad that I couldn't go anywhere without a plug.  So my kids decided it was time for mom to have a good computer. You see I am on the internet all the time trying to find the perfect business and that computer really slowed me down. I do surveys and such and sometimes it just took forever to load the pages. Well enough of that, anyway my kids and husband bought me this computer, it's wonderful, the screen is large, I couldn't believe it wasn't a 17 in, it's not really tall but it's very wide. The picture is sooo clear. It's fast, I always have at least 4 or 5 screens open at the same time and it doesn't seem to effect it.  I know that they paid less the 433. for this computer and it is well worth it. If you decide to get one I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am mine.
