My reed of choice on clarinet

The decision of whether to use a synthetic reed or a wood one is personal. It depends on what the person is looking to do on their instrument.

No synthetic reed will sound as good as a supremely good wood reed. However, wood reeds require lots of effort in finding great ones, due to inconsistency and require wetting, treating and otherwise lots of care. Out of a box of 10 reeds, at the right strength for the player, =there will be 3 - 4 reeds good enough to perform with and another 3 good enough to practice with. The amount of time a performer spends with wood reeds can be a real drain.
