LeapFrog Word Whammer Fridge Phonics set Review

The Leap Frog Word Whammer Fridge Phonics set helped my daughters learn all their uppercase and lowercase letters and their sounds.  We actually purchased this set, the original Fridge Phonics set, and the lowercase letters set.  All of them have been on our fridge for a year now and we have not lost even one!  I find the magnets to be strong enough to keep them on the fridge pretty good.  I sometimes get annoyed by toys that make noise but this one isn't too annoying for me.   Batteries seem to last a long time.  I think I've only replaced them once and my kids play with this all the time.

This toy has been fun for all three of my children (ages 3, 5, and 7).  I like the three different game settings.  They range from very simple to keep my youngest interested without frustrated to challenging and fun for the older ones. Letter hunt lets them put their choice of letter in any spot.  The Word Whammer sings a song with the letter name and the sound it makes.  Word Builder lets them experiment with different letters to try to create words.  If the word is one of the many programmed words it will say the word, sound it out, and sing a song.  If the letters added do not spell out one of the programmed words the word whammer will announce the sounds of the letters.  Word Hunt has them hunt for the letters to build a certain word.  I like that it keeps repeating the clues to keep them looking.  It also gives hints such as what color that letter is, what sound it makes, and what letter it follows in the alphabet. 

 Whenever we have other kids at our house this toy is their #1 choice.  I recommend it to everyone and love to give it for a gift!
