LeapFrog My First Leappad Learning System Review Summary

The LeapFrog My First Leappad Learning System received mixed reviews from parents on Viewpoints. The My First LeapPad does offer some positive points. For instance this electronic learning toy receives praise from reviewers for its durability, ability to strengthen word recognition and that it encourages independent reading. The LeapFrog My First LeapPad also works wonders for keeping children entertained during long road trips and comes with varied games and music. One reviewer exclaims the LeapFrog My First LeapPad “keeps kid’s attention like you wouldn’t believe.” Others disagree strongly with comments like “an alternative to the electronic babysitter-barely” and “not age appropriate.” Parents who didn’t love this learning system have similar complaints including difficulty lining up the pages, easily lost cartridges (since there is no included storage) and deceptive age recommendations. My mother-in-law bought this LeapFrog Leap Frog My First Leappad Learning System (Blue) for my son when he was four years old. It was a really great gift and one that kept on giving due to the fact that there were so many learning books out there to graduate to.

It’s hard to hate a gizmo that keeps your kid entranced for hundreds of miles during cross-country excursions. First we moved from California to Chicago, followed a few months later with a visit to Connecticut (we have a penchant for places starting with “c”, I guess). My four-year-old had this...

My daughter received the My First Leap Pad system as a gift when she was three years old.  The Leap Pad system came the "Leap's Big Day" two in one flip book which has an activity side and a read to me story side. I was surprised how quickly my daughter, and later my son, figured out how to use the stylus and all of the options on My First Leap Pad.  At age three, this was very much a Mommy and me sit on the couch and play together toy but by age four, my children both enjoyed using the My First Leap Pad independently.  We took the time to teach them well how to insert cartridges and flip books...

I actually bought one of these used for my 5 year old son and he absolutely loves it.  I am planning on buying one for my 2 year old daughter soon too because she always wants to play with his.  I have family about 2 hours away from where my husband and I live, when we drive down to see them, my son will play with this almost the whole time.  Has a volume control so it doesn't drive you nuts while you are on the road.  Very easy to use.  The books are surprisingly durable and afforable.  He has had other toys similar to this and the book/cartridge combos cost twice as much and the books fall...

Leap Frog was first given to my daughter in 1995 after the birth of my son.  She was able to carry it out with her to keep her busy with something to do.  I loved the fact that she was excited about learning and listening to the stories.  Her faviote was with math games and colors.  She never left home without it and never went to bed without telling a story to her baby brother, who by the way seemed to be quiet long enough to get through the story that was being told.

As a mother, one of the most interesting things I found about Leap Frog was that it was very durable.  I was able to pass...

I purchased the My First Leap Pad, Leap Frog Learning Center for my son. While my son has a speech delay, even with help he had trouble knowing how to use this program. The books do not sit on the unit properly. Consequently, when my son would click on something, the sound we heard pertained to another page or story.

I didn't feel that the money was well-spent on this item. Within one year, the wire/cord for the stylus/pen was coming out of the unit creating an electrical hazard.

While some Leap Frog products are good learning tools, it seems there's a new one on the store shelf every month - an...

WE purchased this product. My First Leap Pad for our daughter. She was 3 years old at the time. She was so excited when she opened it on christmas day. The leap pad was very easy for her to turn on and definately toddler friendly. She turned the product right on and started playing the program that came with the leap pad. The nice things is that it is a front and back book, so when they get bored of one side, they can flip it over and use the other. My first leap pad is very druable my daughter has dropped this thing down the steps on numorous occasions. My first leap pad was also a life saver...

Leap frog is a good toy for your children to play with. I used leap frog when i was a little girl. I got it for christmas...it was a math multiplication leap frog toy. It actually works. In high school, i was taking honors math and science because i worked better and faster than some of the people in my class. I would say that leap frog helped me get in these honors classes. I know multiplication from the top of my head now all because of leap frog.there are other kinds of leap frog toys too. my little cousins have alot of them. I actually gave my little cousin my multiplication leap frog toy and...

I bought this for my son for Christmas when my son was one year old. I bought it to try and help get him into books as I had tried reading to him before and he wouldn't let me read to him because he was too interested in turning the pages. So I figured this electronic book system would help out with that because of the noise. He could have cared less about this item. The age recommendations on it is 9-36 months. Eh, Not even close. This item actually turned him away from books and he really wanted nothing to do with them after this. I tried for a whole year to get him to even acknowledge this 'toy'... read full review »

I purchased the Leap Frog My First Leap Pad so my son would have something to play with in the car or when he's alone.  He grabs it and plays with it independently.  There are a wide variety of cartridges that you can purchase for it.  Each cartridge focuses on different aspects of learning.  The cartridges each have games and music on them.  I think the bright colors and fun music and voices get the child interested.  The Leap Pad actually has encouraging phrases that it says to the child (just like a parent would).  That is wonderful.  I don't like toys that just beep when a child gets... read full review »

My mother bought my little girl her LeapFrog my First Leap pad for her 1st birthday! She is four years old and still plays with her leap frog pad. The leap frog books have 3 levels with different; more challenging activities on each. We play with it in the car or before going to bed!! It is very easy to use for parents and children. easy toch books, volume change, silly songs, great stories, and learning activities are great for kids of all ages!! I would recommend Leapfrog My first Leap pad for any one interested in learning toys for babies to toddler age!

The my first leap frog has proven to be a great toy for my children. I originally bought it for my now 6 year old and it is still being used by her as well as my 2 year old niece. I cannot begin to tell you how durable this is. The books have been chewed on, the system has been thrown around as well as stood on and it continues to work. The only downfall is that when a new book is purchased, a cartridge has to be installed. The cartridges when not in use are small and easy to lose. Other than that, this is a fantastic educational toy.

My daughter just got the "My first leap pad" last year at Christmas! Its been perfect for her! She just turned 4 this week and still loves it! She has 5 different books/cartiridges that go with it and all of them have really occupied her! She can turn the book over herself to play the other side and can take out the cartridges and put the new one in! Its really great that she is able to do this herself and can't hurt herself! She loves learning and its just a perfect toy! I just wish there were alittle more variety of books!!

I love the Leapfrog Jr. books and my 3 year old does as well.  You can read a story on one side and flip the book over to play games.  Kids can use the attached pen to help read the words and play the games by touching the pen to the book.

He enjoys the stories and games and I enjoy that he is leaning valuable reading, counting and other skills.  Leapfrog offers multiple books and cartridges in several different popular stories.

The My First Leap Pad was an excellent gift for my 4 year old son.  He has been having some speech issues but the book clearly pronounces everything for him and also keeps him fully entertained.  I would suggest gettting a carrying case for the books and cartridges because they are easy to lose.  One other drawback is that I feel like the stores do not carry enough of the books.  Good buy though.
