LeapFrog My First Leappad Learning System —

My mother-in-law bought this LeapFrog Leap Frog My First Leappad Learning System (Blue) for my son when he was four years old. It was a really great gift and one that kept on giving due to the fact that there were so many learning books out there to graduate to.

The Leappad Learning System

According to the manufacturer, the LeapPad Learning System introduces young readers to the magic of books and learning. The interactive talking book comes alive with favorite stories and engaging activities that make learning fun and keep your child coming back again and again! The regular version includes a 32-page book that teaches phonics and whole language development, vocabulary, story reading and information reading development. Appropriate for ages 4 years and up. The features of this product are:

  • Interactive magic pen works like a computer mouse pointer
  • Different voices for each character
  • Includes three different stories
  • Paper piano keyboard, map, and human anatomy games included
  • Portable, 10-by-11-inch book

My Experience

When my five year old son first got this LeapPad system, it really only took once or twice to show him how to use it. It is very easy to use because it is an interactive. All my son had to do was use the "magic" pen and touch the words in the book to hear the story. That gave him a sense of independence and also helped teach him to recognize words as they were being said. There are several activities to choose from in one book. In the story book, my son was able to choose from a couple of games or just simply listen to the story. Once he was a little older, we introduced a different book which taught him letters and what sounds they make. About a year after that, we purchased the beginners Math book for him to play and learn with. We take the LeapFrog Leap Frog My First Leappad Learning System (Blue) with us when we take long trips in the car and it's great to not hear the ever so popular, "are we there yet?".

My Final Viewpoint

This learning system is truly a great one to purchase. It is not all that expensive at $24.99 and you can purchase other books at around $9.99 each. Truly a small price to pay to have your child learn while he is playing. I do recommend this system and give it a 5 star rating.
