LeapFrog Little Touch Leappad —

I initially borrowed the Leap Frog Little Touch Leap Pad from our school's resource center. I wanted to see if it would be a solid purchase for our toddler at Christmas.

Immediately my son tore into the box and began checking out the leap pad. The power is easy for him to turn on and off and it has a handle for portability.

However, if you want to change the setting you will need to do that yourself. The leap pad is almost completely dependent on parents interacting with the child. My son wasn't happy to play with it by himself and became frustrated easily when he couldn't get the pad to respond because he didn't push hard enough on it.

I don't think this is a product I would buy for a child under the age of two. It is durable enough to withstand the abuse of a young baby and toddler but it is not interactive enough to hold a baby's attention.

There are numerous books to use with the leap pad and the different settings allow you to decide how to interact with the book. The books are all spiral bound and made of a durable paper-like material. The books are held in the leap pad by a thin slot which a toddler can easily remove as well. I also was surprised that my son could take the cartridge that accompanies the book out of the leap pad.

The leap pad itself is reasonably priced but I discovered the books are a bit pricey at many places, selling for over $10 a piece.

Overall a good gift suggestion for a toddler. A great product that can grow with your child until preschool.
