Most HelpfulMy boys are 4 and 8. Like most brother, they have a love hate relationship. For the longest time, my older son having game-boys encouraged the hate in their relationship. They fought over this little game player all the time. But when my youngest was allowed to play, he would would get frustrated so...

Most HelpfulBought this for my 3 yr old at xmas. Bought many games to go with and my son loves them! Even the games that are above his age level he finds interesting and at least tries them!
Definately need to have the battery pack to recharge the system w/o buying batteries! A 3 yr old can leave the thing on and burn thru batteries fast!
Leapfrog.com has good deals to make it more cost effective for buying games. Dont recommend buying them at a retail store when u can get them for 1/2 that online!
This electronic toy is a very interesting, educational device. There are many, various cartridges available to entertain all pre-schoolers and into the lower elementary grades. It is wonderful to see a child intently pushing buttons and then giggling with delight at the response from this little device. And all the time they are learning to read, spell, basic math skills while developing an active imagination and finger dexterity. It is a wonderful introduction to the world of electronic games and computers. It can easily be considered a child's first teacher, after Mom.
We have two boys who each have the Leapster L-Max. Honestly, I thought there would be a huge benefit of the L-Max vs. the regular Leapster but there was no real difference. When put on a tv screen the graphics are signicantly more digital-looking but since our 4 and 6-year-olds don't know the difference in graphics quality they enjoy playing on the tv screen or hooked up to the DVD player screen in our minivan. Most of the time they are just playing the games on the actual handheld Leapster though. Definately buy the recharging adapter so you aren't wasting money on batteries. We take...
review »I purchases my two children the LeapFrog Leapsters about 3 years ago for educational purposes. The system offered games with popular characters from TV children programs that were also educational. One of the teachers of my child recommended to buy the LeapFrog Leapster to help with a particular subject in school. I can actually say we had to pry this educational toy from their hands. This little toy helped our children to focus and have fun learning math, reading, and spelling. The great thing about this LeapFrog Leapster is that there are so many different games to choose from. This product is...
review »I bought the original Leapster with "Pet Pals" game for my 2 year old daughter. I had tried other Leap Frog products in the past and was pleased. I wasn't sure how this compared to other systems. I feel this is one of the BEST products on the market for preschool educational toys.
PROS: its handheld so makes it great for use in the car and even when sitting at the doctors office. The games come in large variety of skills to practice, and target essential preschool skills, reading, math, and writing (letters - even handwriting!!). Priced right, inexpensive compared to Nintendo and...
review »I really questioned this purchase. It seemed like a lot of money to spend on a small child & did not think it would withstand much abuse. Was I wrong! This thing is ticking away years later and now satisfying 2 kids. My daughter started to use it when she was 2. This machine has been dropped down the stairs numerous times. The stylus cord did eventually break, but that is okay, it works great as a touch screen & the kids preferred to use it as such anyway.
The games are fun and educational. I have been slow at creating a great library of games, but the older games seem to continue to keep my...
review »The Leapster L-Max comes with a variety of software, most of which is aimed at giving kids exposure to or practice with the basics in Math and English. Cartridges can be purchased for anywhere from $19.99 to $29.99. Games for younger kids review letters, phonics, and addition and subtraction concepts, and encourage creativity and fun with art and I-Spy activities. Games for older kids review mutiplication tables, division, and social studies. Systems are sold with a connector that allows you to plug the L-Max into your TV and let your kids play on the 'big screen'.
Only downside: if your kid...
review »The Leapster L-Max System was a great purchase for my child (age 4). The games have grat leveling so that as the child progresses, they continue to be challenged! We actually have both the leapster and L-Max systems (bought Leapster over a year ago - now leave it at grandparents house with some games) but wanted to have a system that could be seen on the television to give an added functionality as well as portability. The L-Max can be used on the television or as a portable game system and on each there are some differences in what the child sees, so it's actually interesting and great for...
