My boys are 4 and 8. Like most brother, they have a love hate relationship. For the longest time, my older son having game-boys encouraged the hate in their relationship. They fought over this little game player all the time. But when my youngest was allowed to play, he would would get frustrated… read full review »

This is a nice toy, but I am not sure if given a choice if I would buy Vtech Handheld again or the competitor.  The first problem is that the batteries go way too fast!  Pretty much forcing you to buy the battery charger.  I have not experienced that with the competitor… read full review »

My daughter has had this since before starting kindergarten and we have loved the availability of games a differing skill levels and age appropriate content.  The games are actually pretty fun, because of course, Mom and Dad had to try it out to demonstrate how to do things when she was smaller.   She will play with it when we are travelling in the car and it really cuts down on "Are we there yet?"  It doesn't take the place of reading stories and books, but it helps set the foundation for skills like sounding out letters, counting, basic math skills.  The adapter is… read full review »

I was looking for something to keep my daughter occupied while i ran errands.  Many of my friends bought nintendo gameboys.  My three year old was not able to play these but she could play another little friends leapster.  So we went one step up got an l-max.  She loves it and she has learned how to write her letters.  Now i do not have to stop and buy a thousand treats in the mall to keep her from turning into a terrible three year old monster.  I really did not buy it because of the educational aspect but that has been a wonderful bonus.  If you have a… read full review »

Bought this for my 3 yr old at xmas.  Bought many games to go with and my son loves them!  Even the games that are above his age level he finds interesting and at least tries them! — Definately need to have the battery pack to recharge the system w/o buying batteries!  A 3 yr old can leave the thing on and burn thru batteries fast!  —  Leapfrog.com has good deals to make it more cost effective for buying games.  Dont recommend buying them at a retail store when u can get them for 1/2 that online! —… read full review »

This electronic toy is a very interesting, educational device.  There are many, various cartridges available to entertain all pre-schoolers and into the lower elementary grades.  It is wonderful to see a child intently pushing buttons and then giggling with delight at the response from this little device.  And all the time they are learning to read, spell, basic math skills while developing an active imagination and finger dexterity.  It is a wonderful introduction to the world of electronic games and computers.  It can easily be… read full review »

I like the size of this product but compared to the leap pad and leap pad jr., this gaming system is a lot smaller and really is only for one person viewing it. The window is small and dark at side angles when not looking directly at it. My daughter got one of these this past summer and she never plays the separate game.. there is no place to store it and its easy to lose because its so small. She mostly plays the paint game that comes with the leapster. It would be better if there was a place to store the games. Also, the flap that protects the window comes off easy and is in the way. Ours… read full review »

I bought the Leapster several years ago when it first came out, and it was one of the best toy purchases I have ever made.  My daughter was four then.  She is now eight and continues to play with it today.  I simply by new age appropriate cartridges and the Leapster keeps up with her growing mind.  She thinks she is just having fun, but I know she is learning a lot from this item too.  She also has a Nintendo Gameboy Advanced and she tends to choose the leapster over it.  I like that it runs on batteries because we travel a lot.  I can easily put spare… read full review »

The Leapster L-Max comes with a variety of software, most of which is aimed at giving kids exposure to or practice with the basics in Math and English. Cartridges can be purchased for anywhere from $19.99 to $29.99. Games for younger kids review letters, phonics, and addition and subtraction concepts, and encourage creativity and fun with art and I-Spy activities.  Games for older kids review mutiplication tables, division, and social studies. Systems are sold with a connector that allows you to plug the L-Max into your TV and let your kids play on the 'big screen'. —  … read full review »

The Leapster L-Max System was a great purchase for my child (age 4).  The games have grat leveling so that as the child progresses, they continue to be challenged!  We actually have both the leapster and L-Max systems (bought Leapster over a year ago - now leave it at grandparents house with some games) but wanted to have a system that could be seen on the television to give an added functionality as well as portability.  The L-Max can be used on the television or as a portable game system and on each there are some differences in what the child sees, so it's actually… read full review »

The leapster hand-held game system is a wonderful toy for all ages.  it keeps my kids entertained in the car so they aren't fighting back and forth. I love the fact that my kids are learning instead of playing violent video games. My daughter started kindergarten this year and her teacher keeps telling me how far ahead of the other kids she is, I attribute alot of that to the leapster. There are a few drawbacks, the games can get expensive and it does go through batteries, but all in all i'd have to say it was worth it. You can get good deals on the games, try resale shops… read full review »

My son has had his Leapster for well over a year now and it is the best thing we ever got for him!  He takes it in the car as well as playing at home.  The games are fun but the fun is also very educational.  The fact that many of the games include some of his favorite characters is an added bonus.  The variety of games seems endless and the skills they teach in the way they teach them are very clever.  If I'm going to let my child play video games I would at least like to know that they are getting something out of it besides jump that chasm and over that poky thing… read full review »

My husband wanted this for our daughter and I was initially against it.  I wanted her to have quiet educational things like puzzles and blocks.  We got it and it is THE BEST toy we have ever purchased, because it is educational and she uses it.  The cartridges are sold separately and vary by age and skill taught.   She has learned reading skills, parts of speech, American History, spelling, and more.  It is a great thing to have on a long trips and hooks up to our video player in the car.  I just purchased three more cartridges for Christmas.  I would… read full review »

We debated getting this for our child who was turning three years old at the time, he is four now.   He always takes care of his toys, so I thought well why not.  It had all of the pros we were looking for such as all the learning games, portable etc.  My son taught himself how to play the games.  He became an expert in a week, and was running circles around me.  But I knew we made the right decision in purchasing this when he said mommy this is an oval not a circle.  I was like oh yes this was so worth buying this at an early age.  I support leapster 100… read full review »

We got this for my oldest son last Christmas.  My younger son is asking Santa for one this Christmas.  This is a fantastic toy for long car trips.  I didn't want to get my son a gameboy because I'd rather he was learning not just blowing up things.  My sisters son had a Leapster and showed it to my oldest son at the beach.  He begged for one last year.  After seeing his brother play all year long my youngest told Santa he wanted one this year.  The only problem I have with them is thare aren;t very many games at each learning level. I wish there were… read full review »

The Leapster came in pink, which was the clincher fo me.  It is not too expensive as a unit and has great accessories, including a small size back pack that is easily cleaned.  I find that the batteris last a long time.  This game is great for down time and car rides. My daughter started using the Pink Leapster when she was just 4 and it was easy for her to learn. She loves new games and the Disney Princess game is worth the value.  The price of games is around $25, which can be pricey but they have a nice variety and stages for every age beginning with preschool. … read full review »
