I bought the Leapster several years ago when it first came out, and it was one of the best toy purchases I have ever made.  My daughter was four then.  She is now eight and continues to play with it today.  I simply by new age appropriate cartridges and the Leapster keeps up with her growing mind.  She thinks she is just having fun, but I know she is learning a lot from this item too.  She also has a Nintendo Gameboy Advanced and she tends to choose the leapster over it.  I like that it runs on batteries because we travel a lot.  I can easily put spare batteries in the car or backpack and not worry about it going dead in the middle of a trip.  VTech is a good company as far as customer service and replacement parts too.  I haven't had to replace anything on this item, but I did on her leappad she had before this and getting a replacement part was simple.  I consider this item to be a very good value for the money.
