Although I do buy silly toys, the toys that I have gravitated to with both of my children are ones that they can actually get something out of....the educational toys. So far, any toy that I have bought that is associated with the Leap Frog brand has met every expectation that I have. They are colorful and durable and they draw the child and/or baby's attention to it and hold their attention. I purchased the Leap Frog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set for my first child and she played with it so much, she wore it out. Although I can't be 100% certain, I strongly believe that it sped up her learning and helped teach her her alphabet. When my second daughter came along, once again I purchased a set of Fridge Phonics for her. It is stuck to the refrigerator and every night as I prepare dinner, she sits in front of it and plays with it. At 9 months, she can push the letters into the holder so that they make a sound and she laughs when it "talks" to her. It has also helped with her motor skills as she is learning how to take the magnet out and put it back into the holder.
