LeapFrog has done it again.

We have several products from the LeapFrog line and love each and every one of them. Their products are durable, entertaining and very engaging to the age appropriate designs of each one. With the LeapBall, our grandson that is 1 year of age loves to watch the ball spin and sing to him. We enjoy hearing him laugh and coo as he hears the different sounds, letters and lights with each turn. I know he will continue to play with this as he grows and we will have the other products from LeapFrog readily available as they last forever with proper care. The ball is easy to move, spins as it should and the sound quality is very nice. I would recommend this product to friends, family and anyone else that asks about it. I would recommend the entire line of LeapFrog toys and games.

My son loves this!

The ball lights up and plays music when it rotates.  It comes on a stand for younger babies.  My son loves sitting on the floor with it and spinning it like crazy!  You can take the ball off the stand as they grow and roll it across the floor.  It plays the alphabet song as well.  You can touch the letters on the ball to hear what the letter is, what sound it makes, or a song corresponding to the letter (example:  A is Are you Sleeping, Brother John).

LeapFrog always has excellent toys!

This toy is not only easy to operate but fun for children that are younger and older. I would say that the target age for this toy would be 6-24 mos, but I'm sure that children younger and older would enjoy it. When you turn on the toy, your young one can hear the ABCs and spin the ball around. The switch to turn it on might be difficult for a young one to switch on, so parents might have to handle that. In a way, that's a good thing. If you tired of hearing the song, you can always turn it off! The base of the toy is sturdy enough to keep it upright for even the little ones that are tougher on toys. My son really enjoyed this toy. He enjoyed spinning the ball around and around and seeing a response from the toy. One thing I love about Leapster toys is that they are so educational and fun at the same time. My children have both learned their ABCs and other educational songs from playing with Leapsters toys. I would definitely recommend it! I will say that these products are not cheap, though. You may have to spend a little more for the quality.

Very clever toy and they will learn a lot

My now 2 year old got this as a Christmas gift. It is a wonderful toy. The spinning is a favorite feature for kids and the music or voice is great too. My son loves to pick a letter and push it. There are two settings and volume control which is always a plus! On the music mode, you get the biggest varity of music for kids that I have ever found. Keep the ball rolling and you can hear lots of good toons in good quality. Switch to the letter mode and not only can your kids learn their abc's - their names and how they look - but also the sound. My son has learned the sound of many letters using this toy. It also comes off the base - easily enough to remove without tools or frustration, but not so easy that it would ever come off if you don't want it to. Once off the base, this toy also becomes a way to encourage your baby to crawl. You can roll it to play the song or abc's or you child could push it and crawl after it. This is a really great toy with lots of longevity!

leapfrog discovery ball is a cute toy

my son had gotten the leapfrog discovery ball when he was just three months old for his first christmas. the adults had a blast playing with it on christmas day and trying to spell out words with out making the ball sing. but all in all the ball is now five years old and still works. i like the fact that the base has a lock on the side to where you can take the ball off of it and roll it across the floor.. i think the ball is very easy to use. i now have 2 kids. ages 5 and 2 and they will still take out the ball and play with it. one thing i dont like it that the ball is really heavy for a baby, if they happen to pick it up and drop it and it land on them it's going to hurt.  the discover ball that i have has gotten a beaten from the kids using it and playing rough with it, and it is still going strong. discover ball is great beacuse it has songs, has abc's, bright lights, last a long time, the cons for the ball is i find it to be a little on the heavy side.

The Discovery Ball Letters are Buttons?

5

Ok, maybe I'm not the brightest person in the world, but after having this for years in our house, we discovered that the letters on the ball are actually buttons that can be pressed.  This causes the ball to say the letter out loud!  In my defense, I am a busy parent and this was a hand me down, so I never saw the packaging. In terms of what I like about this toy, the voice is a very pleasant one when it says the alphabet.  The music is also very gentle sounding.  It has a music mode as well as an alphabet mode.  The ball itself is very heavy, which is good, otherwise this would not be a very stable toy.  The base is removeable, although I've never really found a use for removing it.  The base itself is a little on the light side.  I really appreciate that there is a volume switch as well.  (I hate loud toys!)  I also like that the music stops when the ball stops rolling, but continues at the same spot when you spin it again.  So it doesn't start over and over again.

LeapFrog Discovery Call - great product

5

The LeapFrog Discovery Ball teaches letter names, letter sounds, musical awareness, and motor skills. It has colorful letters and lights up when playing. The sound can be turned to low or high. I love that the Discovery Ball will grow with your baby. My youngest received the discovery ball as a gift when she was 8 months old and close to a 1 1/2 later, she still enjoys playing with the Discovery Ball. My oldest also likes the toy - it's a great educational toy!! Both kids seem to have fun as they spin the ball and learn the different sounds/tunes. Lights flash to the beat of the music which seems to intrique younger babies. The product is recommended for ages 6 months and up.I would recommend the LeapFrog Discovery Ball for parents, grandparents, or childcare givers  looking for a toy for a younger baby or for a toddler that is both fun and educational for the kids. I love all LeapFrog products and this one will not disappoint.

Fun, but a little annoying for a parent!

My son got this leapfrog discovery ball for Christmas. In our home, we got five new Leapfrog brand products and are happy with each of them so far. My 9 month old, loves to spin this discovery ball. For the most part, the ball is heavy enough not to tip over, but sometimes it does which frustrates him. We have not had any injuries, leapfrog has made this very safe if you child tries to stop the ball while spinning. The ball provides entertainment through the spinning in the front, the black/white lines on both sides of the ball and the music. It can do animal sounds, letter sounds and songs. As a parent, I find the songs a little sickening, but the baby just adores it and it entertains him. I like it had an enducational aspect to it, but it also helps my son with his fine motor skills of spinning and watching the ball. My older preschool daughter even likes to spin it with my son and sing along. We think this is a good toy

LeapFrog Discovery Ball has lasted a long time at our house

4

There is a lot to be said for a toy that can make it through two children and dozens of playdates.  We purchased the LeapFrog Discovery Ball a few years ago to help our daughter learn the alphabet.  She loved it and used it daily for a long time.  We put it away and forgot about it until my son was almost a year old.  He has now inherited the discovery ball and it's just as good as new.  It doesn't just teach the basic ABC's, although that alone would be worth the money.  Each of the letters plays a tune when pushed.  The first letter of the song's title is the letter that you push.  We have had a lot of fun teaching our little ones these fun songs.  In this way, the toy really grows with the child.  It also has a volume adjusting switch so that you can make it quiet if needed.  This is perfect to perch on top of the high chair but you can also remove it from the base and make it into a true ball.  The batteries seem to last and last in this toy.  Overall we're really happy with it and would purchase it as a gift without hesitation.

Not worth the money.

Let me start out by saying that I generally love LeapFrog.  They make many great products that my daughter & nephews have loved.  However, this is not one of them.  It was just disappointing in so many ways.  First, it seemed to run through batteries very quickly (much more so than her other electronic toys); also, it was hard to get the batteries installed- which was especially frustrating since we had to do it so often.  Second, it was hard for my daughter to roll the ball without it falling off the stand.  Finally, we found the buttons to be too difficult for her to push.  I found it to be a bit confusing, myself, and generally unimpressive in design.  She very quickly lost interest in the toy and we ended up donating it within just a couple of months.     Like I said, I do love many LeapFrog products, but this one just does not live up to expectations.  If you must have LeapFrog, invest in some of the other toys (we're really fond of Scout), but skip this one.
