LeapFrog 100 Hoops Basketball Counting Game —

My children have many toys that they either have grown out of or just simply don't use anymore.  I decided to go though and get some together to give to the Rescue Mission.  I came across the LeapFrog 100 Hoops Basketball Counting Game that belonged to my six-year-old son.  I struggled as to whether or not to let this one go.  Even though he was six, and could already count to 100, I decided to keep it because he was still mastering the art of counting by 10's.

The Facts

  • Hook onto any vertical surface, hang on a doorknob, or mount on a wall with included attachments.
  • Play in English or Spanish
  • Volume control.
  • Kid-sized (3-inch) basketball.
  • Five ways to Play:
    • Count 1-100
    • Skip count by 2's
    • Skip count by 5's
    • Skip count by 10's
    • Count backwards

My Experience

When my son was three and a half, my husband, and I purchased this toy for him for Christmas.  He immediately loved it and played with it often.  The numbers light up and when the ball makes it in the hoop, a crowd responds with cheers.  There is even a sports announcer who pronounces the letter and number names in either English or Spanish.  Thankfully, there is a volume control on this toy because after awhile, the sounds become annoying.  The 3" plastic ball that is included is the perfect size for small hands and my son had no problem handling it.  I noticed though that the hoop was quite small as well and made it a bit difficult for him to make the basket at times.  Because this basketball game is not free standing, it is necessary to attach it to something such as a door or chair and comes with the attachment hardware.  As my son got older, he stayed interested in playing this game because there are five different ways to play.  In a sense, it grew right along with him and for under $25, I think it was a good buy.

My Final Viewpoint

The LeapFrog 100 Hoops Basketball Counting Game is a fun way to teach children between the ages of 3-6 the basics of counting.  My son had so much fun that he didn't even realize that he was learning.  I recommend this game and I am giving it a 4 star rating.

Great points in this review. I like the English/Spanish options.

This does sound neat. My son adored a basketball hoop we had when he was little. It didn't teach him to count though.
