I love Comedy!  My husband and I have some favorite comedians and we try to see them whenever they are in town.  We are also always seeking fresh comedians to see if they are as hilarious as the ones we love.  So of course, when Last Comic Standing premiered a few years ago, we had to watch.  I didn't end up watching every season but I've made an effort to watch this season because it really is a good way to hear new and unique jokes!

Like all Competition Reality Shows
Last Comic Standing is about traveling the country to pick the best comics, and narrow that down through auditions and competitions until we come down to a house full of comics who live together and compete to be the Last Comic Standing.  Simple enough!  Really there's not much more to explain.

You see comics of all styles
Which is great!  For example, this season there is a set of twins that are very funny.  You get to see comedians from all walks of life and a variety of cultures.  There's also character based comics who make up on stage personas.  This season there is a duo called God's Pottery" that plays the characters of an overly-Christian singing duo with a message... but in reality, they are pretty funny!  Many comedians will bring their culture to the stage through their jokes and humor.  Sometimes it's hard to decide who is funnier because two acts can be very different in their styles and types of jokes.

It's not as funny as a Comedy Club
The fact is, the show just is not as funny as being in a comedy club because... they are all amateurs trying their best to be funny.  When you go see Brian Regan or Dane Cook, they are usually well known and therefore confident in their jokes.  When you go to a comedy club, you EXPECT the comedian to be funny, maybe you even expect him to be hilarious.  However when you watch this show it's almost like you watch it EXPECTING them to bomb, and then when they do end up being funny you just giggle or laugh a little.  I think the anticipation of them bombing makes it hard to be in a fully laughing mood because you know they all can't win!

Even so...
It's still a fun watch.  It's interesting to learn the comics methods and how they come up with their characters and jokes.  It's nice to learn more about the comedians than just the jokes they tell on stage.  The comics who make it through do get funnier over time and by the end you are routing for your favs.  So catch Last Comic Standing now!  Enjoy!!

I watched one season and loved it and then I thought the show was canceled. But it came back without Jay Mahr (or whatever his name is). I just happened to catch some a while ago. I didn't even know it was back on!

I watched this show the first couple of seasons. It got kind of repetitive. Good job!

I don't watch all the shows but I do enjoy watching the variety presented by all of them. All of them are pretty good and some stand out as very good. Makes for an enjoyable evening in front of the TV. ;)
