Bought this heater three days ago and so far it is exactly what we needed. We really only use the living room and bedroom in our room and the thought of paying to use the central heating to heat the whole house was silly. I thought we could use this in the living room and when we go to bed take it into the bedroom. It works perfectly for this. The box says it will heat up to 1,000-1,200 sq ft. I would say it does that much, but more like 600-800 sq ft effectively. It is very quiet and super light. The wood grain on the front makes it look fancier than it is. Nice sleek design that can fit up against a wall. Performance Works great, not quite as many sq ft as the box says but a lot for such a small unit. Ease of Use There's a power button and a button to control the fan level and heat settings. More try simple. Display shows current room temp as we'll. Design Nice wood grain look design on front. Nice enough to keep out and will match decor. Safety No hot heated coils. Unit stays cool.

We bought this Lasko ceramic heater a few years ago. We use a wood-burning stove in our basement. The stove heats our house very well, however, our living room is not over the basement, so it stays cold. We bought this heater to use in our living room, and we love it. We used to use a radiator-style heater, which I burned my leg on once. Once we had our first child, we knew that we had to get a heater that would be safe around children. These heaters do not get hot on the outside surface. They are safe to touch. It has a remote control that is convenient, but we rarely use it. We love this heater so much that we ended up buying another one last year to use in a playroom that we built in our attic. I would recommend this heater to anyone, especially if you have children that will be around it.

This doesn't get as hot as I would like, but I do like that you can set a temp and it will shut off when it gets to that point. We use it in our basement, and I don't feel like it gets it that warm, I think I need something a little bit more powerful, it seems like the temp only gets up to about 65 degrees, and I would like it around 70, but it has a hard time getting up there. However it is very lightweight and durable. It is extremely easy to clean, and looks nice. You can also adjust the flow of the heat coming out, and there is a high and low setting. If you have a small room, I think this would be a great product to have. It is easy enough for my kids to use and safe enough for them the use also. I don't worry about them burning themselves on it.

I have tried and tested many different brands and styles of portable space heaters. The main (sad) reason I've tried so many is because most space heaters just don't stand the test of time, or even 1 year for that matter. This Lasko unit produces more heat than any other 1500w space heater I have bought. No other heater could bring the room up to temperature as fast or as high. While I give this a full 5 stars there is one caveat. After 13 months it stopped working. After getting some technical support from Lasko we actually blew the unit out and vacuumed it at the same time and it actually started working again. My advice is to regularly vacuum the front air-intake filter. If we had done that from the start I am quite sure we would never have had a problem in the first place. The air-intake is not large so if it gets covered with dust it will choke out the heater and make it overheat, which in turn shuts the unit down. Excellent space heater, especially for extremely cold winters which we have here in Canada.

The **Lasko 5840 Compact Heater** is a perfect heater for a person that needs a small spot heated!  I work in an area that doesn't have great heating, and my feet really cold.  So i bought this compact heater, and it did the job.  It fit right in the spot I needed, and worked perfectly.  The remote for the **Lasko 5840 Compact Heater **is just an added plus. I usually don't mind bending over and just adjusting to whatever I need, but this is a nice feature just so I can just point and turn it off or do whatever I would like with the heater!  The unit doesn't produce any weird smells from the coils that produce the heat, which is also another added bonus!  It does make some noise when its in use, which once again is not a problem for me. This could pose a problem for people that need it to be quiet in certain areas. I would also like the heater to get a bit hotter at times, but its not made for that I suppose.  Overall it does a good job for what it costs and the area it needs to heat.

Hello Again.  This review was originally catalogued (and still is) under the Lasko *Compact* Heater with the same model number.   I want to make sure those looking for the review of the CYCLONIC CERAMIC 5840 not the compact version do indeed find the review and know that the two machines are **completely** different so I placed this review under its own correct product title.   I have used the 5840 Cylconic heater by Lasko for 3 months and lowered its rating by one star.  As I feared once real winter got here it isn't able to produce enough heat to warm a room comfortably.  It also inconsistent.  It WILL actually produce sufficient heat on occasion.  When it feels like it. I thought one day I had written an entirely unfair review when suddenly my face felt burnt when I got close to it and its temp read out went to 81 in under an hour.  Then I put it on the next day and the old behavior was back.  Loud as can be but only able to up the temp in a room 5 degrees from 71 to 76 after 10-12-14 hours.   It is soooo nice looking, I keep wishing it was a better performer but I'm afraid I can't call it a very good heater.  Perhaps its a good thing that it is not an easy model to locate.   Its best use is still RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, as in an office cubicle situation but hopefully you have the area to yourself.  I don't think others in an office environment would want to hear this thing.  It isn't a whiny sound but it is loud air.  A television has to be turned up if your ears, the tv and heater are within 6ft of each other.  Feature selection produces a BEEP.   **DIMENSIONS:    25" tall     8.25" front to back     roughly 17" wide    WEIGHT:  Under 5lbs** See the Full Review here  [Lasko-5840-Heater-review-d4666][1]   **DANGER**  Though ETL listed not UL listed the heater does ** NOT** shut off when tipped over not even when fallen completely and face down.  That could burn a wood floor or carpet and start a fire.  A heater listed as meeting OSHA standards has no business behaving this way. I purchased the Lasko ceramic heater Model 5840 appx. 5 weeks ago.  My primary motivation was to reduce winter heating costs.  My current review will not address this point since I have not yet received my first heating bill (My primary heat is a reverse A/C).  I have lived in a condo and now have 5 full years "under my belt" living here.  Before I purchased the Lasko heater, my winter heating bills have been 4 to 5 times higher than sumer bills. Both my heating and cooling are by a reverse function air conditioner.  (Yes, you read that correctly.....4 to 5 times higher electric usage for heat than for cooling.)  Since it is too soon to make the first cost compairson, I will amend this review when I have a reliable set of readings.  (adjusted, of course for any price changes for electricity. etc.)  With all this being said, the other features of the Lasko are so outstanding I felt compelled to comment at this time.  I especially like the remote controll, timer function, and the automatic heat controll.  The latter item is  very useful when using the Lasko as a room heater.  My final comment is that all this is packaged in an attractive case, but more important the price is amazingly low for all these "goodies".

I am writting about the Lasko Model 5840 Heater.  These are great little piece of equipment that will help take the chill off of your home any time cold weather is coming around. The Lasko heater will warm up a room and keep running with not to much of an expense on your electric bill.  The lasko heater will help in any room you place it in.  It is affordabley priced and can be found in alot of different stores throughout the area. You can find it from hardware stores, discount stores to places like wal mart.  The lasko heater is also a very neat looking unit, which can stand in any room and not look out of place or ugly.  Just think if your bathroom is the coldest room in the house and the Lasko Heater helps make it warm enough for your bath and or shower without feeling chilled or making you sick.  I am a person whom uses Heaters in my home to help with the winter chill and espically in fall before you have to fire up the woodstove or gas.  The Lasko heater will help with the heating.

The Lasko heater serves it's purpose, it keeps you warm.  I use it in my office and I like it.  One thing I like about it is that it doesn't take too long to warm up.  I have used other space heaters before and I hate how it always takes time to heat up.  This model only takes about 2 minutes to feel the heat.

The Lasko Model 5840 Ceramic heater is a good value for the price. This heater is attractive and does a very good job of heating a rom. It has 2 heat settings and you can use a timer to set the hours you want it to opperate. It has a remote contol. It has a thermostat that you can contol by degree increments. It is safe to touch anywhere and would be safe for children. it shuts off if tipped over. It is easy to moce around and has directional vanes on the output.
