Lasko 5365 Ceramic Compact Heater —

We have an extra room at the back of our house and the previous owner neglected to install a heat/cooling register in it. The first two winters in our home this little heater was the only source of heat for that room, other than drifting in from the main house. Our Cockatiels call this little room their home so they love us for their personal little heater.

Does it really work?

You betcha it does, we set the temp to 73 to keep the birds warm as the heater sets about 5 feet from their cages. We did have to add another heater in there last winter as it was a brutal one, with temps going for weeks and never coming above the mid teens. Heck the house was cold too and I had to keep the fireplace cranked the whole time to keep us warm too.

Just two weeks ago the heater stopped working ;( I was mad but I needed to keep the birds warm. Being a hands on type guy I tore it apart just to see if I could perhaps fix it. Well lo and behold it was caked with dust all over the inside. I took it too the garage and blasted it clean with my air hose. Took it back in the house, plugged it in and prayed I didn't get shocked or something to tell the truth. I looked like a little kid lighting a firecracker, I was scared!

Well the lights came on but they did that before I cleaned it so I was not turning cartwheels yet. So I reached over and raised the temp on it and .....BINGO it fired up and started spewing out nice warm air!!!! YAY! My little Lasko was once again doing its job! I put all the screws back in and quickly delivered it back to our Cockatiels and turned it on for them.

Although this past summer I hired a heating guy to install a register in the extra room I still leave the Lasko there and set to 73 for when the temperature drops so our sweet birds can stay warm and cozy. As a side note...they don't want you to take this heater apart and have installed triangle head screws to hold it together. They just never met a Redneck before I guess, as we can take anything apart!!

Bottom Line

I have no idea what this little heater costs, because my wife actually bought it and told me it was "None Ya business" when I asked what she paid for it. Doesn't matter though as it was worth every penny she paid for it. We have had it for the third winter now and other than having to blow out the dust inside it we have not had a lick of problems with it. It keeps the birds warm and that is what counts in my book!
