In a house without air conditioning, fans are one of my best friends. Propped up in the bedroom window is one of the 12 inch Lasko Table Fans, which helps bring in a lot of cool air at night. Sure its not the ideal window fan, or the intended use for one of these type of fans, but it gives a unique angle that actually works better than a window box fan. It's not too heavy to maneuver though, coming in under 10 pounds of weight. The total height of the fan is probably around 2 feet, and it will extend off a ledge if you place it there.
The fan itself is made of a thick white plastic, and a nice heavy base to keep it from tipping over (or falling off the windowsill). I waited until the fan was turned as far as it could to the right, and then place it up into the window so that the air was pointed towards the front of the room. The diameter of the fan is 12 inches, giving a nice area of air flow to any place that you decide to use it. On the front of the base is the control switch that is also very easy to use. It consists of a knob that has 4 choices to select from, one being the off-setting, and the other three being increasing levels of "wind-creation." Level 3 is pretty intense, so I usually settle for either 1 or 2 depending on how much fresh air is needed.
Each of the speeds is advertised as being whisper quiet, and is indeed quite nice, but you can still hear it from across the room. As long as you don't mind the really dull hum it will work perfectly for your cooling needs. The fan oscillates 90-degrees from left to right, and as a knob at the top that can be pulled up (or pushed down) to either stop the oscillation or let it keep on going. The back of the fan also gives you the ability to change the angle of the fan through a position pivot that will also alter the circulation of your air.
This Lasko Table Fan was purchased for just under $20.00 on sale, and can be used in multiple places around the house when you buy it. It is intended to be a nice table fan, but as I said I have put it to good use in the bedroom window. It has worked brilliantly ever since it was bought, and was easy to put together out of the box. The grill snaps into place on the front with very little effort, and also advertises that it is energy efficient once you plug it into the wall. The front grill comes off with just a few seconds work, and that allows you to clear out any dust or debris that may have built up within between the grills or on the blades. Using a damp paper-towel will do the job very nicely, and the cleaning will only take a few moments every so often.
The fan works great, adjusts to any angle or position that you want, and gives three different speeds to choose from. The cost was a huge plus, but the fan has truly been a helpful addition to the house. Lasko is a company I have come to trust, and this is just one more of their products that as performed very well.
My Viewpoint:
This is an excellent fan, because it can be set up in any room of the house, allowing you to take full advantage of the three speeds.
