Tread slowly.  If you need readers now you will still need them.  I went from wearing progesseive lenses for distance correction and a bifocal for reading to having the surgery and still needing progressive lenses.  Not for distance, but because the reader that I need to see my computer screen is different that the reader the I need to see my keyboard.  I can now drive without the aid of glasses for distance...but I can't tell what radio station is playing in my car without putting on glasses.  Not so happy that I spent thousands and still need progressives.
