There's newer and glitzier hotels in Acapulco, but for sheer character and over-the-top exuberance when it comes to matters of privacy and romance, there is just no beating the Brisas. It's usually pretty pricey to book a room here, but if you really want quality time for just the two of you, then this is the place!

What makes the Brisas so unusual is that instead of predictable box rooms in a high rise box on the beach, you get private little cottages, gently scattered across a rolling hillscape looking over the Acapulco Bay. The feeling is more like being in an exclusive country club environment than like being at a typical hotel. The cottage approach gives you more privacy and a feeling of seclusion. You get your own balcony to sit on in the evenings, watching the lights twinkle on the harbor, and you get your own small private pool --- just for the two of you. Sit outside and share a bottle of champagne and do a little midnight skinny dipping if you want --- most of the casitas are pretty private so you won't be seen by the neighbors. (You might want to avoid the naked hi-jinx if you get the "shared casita" --- they're cheaper, but less conducive to antics.)

My only complaint about staying at the Brisas is that the place is so darn PINK. I can see the natural pinkness of the cascading bouganvilleas everywhere, and I don't even object too much to the constant casting of pink rose petals, but I draw the line at being seen in public riding in a pink Jeep! By the way, they use their fleet of pink Jeeps for everything. Call for room service, and the waiter shows up in a pink Jeep. Call for a tennis court time, and the staff comes to pick you up in a pink Jeep.

The facilities are totally first rate. They've got wonderful pools and recreational facilities and we enjoyed the salt water pool at the beach, though it should be noted that the Brisas isn't really a "beach" kind of property --- if you want beachfront access, you might be happier at a resort like the Camino Real Diamante. The restaurant at the Brisas, like everything else on the property, is very romantic with an open air feeling and a hilltop location that treats you to some of the most spectacular evening vistas in Acapulco.

Overall, it's a luxurious, upscale hotel that goes out of the way to create an intimate, romantic feeling. The Brisas is not a good choice for the active family looking for beachfront activities, but for intimacy, privacy, and romance, the Brisas is *THE* place to stay in Acapulco.
