Reviewers find Lars and the Real Girl "sweet and moving, though not too much like real life." Reviewers note their initial impressions that Lars and the Real Girl "sounded silly and sophomoric" were wrong, as "the actors played their parts tenderly, subtlety ... not played for the broad laugh."
