Quick View: I am a big fan of snack/protein/health bars and have tried many. I like several brands and eat them regularly. Not long ago, I ran across a bar called LaraBar. At first glance, I dismissed the bar because it seemed way too high in fat. However, after reading the ingredients and other info, I bought a box. I think I am IN LOVE. These bars - in Cherry Pie - are magnificent and have exacly THREE ingredients in them!

About LaraBar - Cherry Pie Organic Bars

All LaraBars (There are several flavors but so far I have only tried Cherry Pie) are: organic, gluten, dairy, and soy free, preservative free, contain nothing but raw ingredients, and are a great source of natural energy and vitamins. They have nothing added at all. These are also vegan and kosher.

The Cherry Pie variety contains the following ingredients: Unsweetened Cherries, Almonds, Dates. That is it. NOTHING else!

These bars taste absolutely magnificent. They come packaged in foil wrappers and are around 1.7 dense ounces apiece. They are chock full of crunchy almonds and have sweet/tart delicious cherry taste. Since these are all natural and have nothing but three ingredients in them, the flavor shines through.

LaraBar sums these up best:

Tart and tasty! The mouth-watering experience begins with unsweetened cherries abundant in Vitamin A, flavanoids and antioxidants. All are vital for disease prevention and good health. Dates and almonds add pleasing texture along with Vitamin E and 16 essential vitamins and minerals. Each bar helps the heart with 2.7 grams of Omega-6 fatty acids and tantalizes the taste buds with off-the-chart flavor.

Now, let me warn you that the fat amount seems high at 8 grams a bar BUT the fat comes only from the nuts and nuts have GOOD fat in them. Not all fat is alike. We have been trained to buy low fat foods not really realizing that the fats in certain foods actually can lower our cholesterol and help our hearts. The fat in this bar is all good stuff and is actually very good for you.

As far as other nutritional facts, the bars weigh in at 190 calories, 28 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, and a host of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals.

These bars are SO filling. They are dark brown and very dense. When I first bit into one, I was blown away. So blown away that I called my sister to tell her. She was underwhelmed but still, I had to share the news that I had just found a bar that I was in love with that had no chemicals and was completely natural. These bars taste wonderful. Big crunchy pieces of almonds and delicious cherries along with the dates make for a real treat. I feel good knowing I am not filling my body with chemicals and preservatives. It is as though I have some dates, cherries, and almonds and am snacking on those because that is exactly what this bar is.

I plan to try all 12 flavors. All are around the same nutritional values and all are raw, organic, and only contain three to five ingredients - all of them natural. It's amazing to me that a bar that has no artificial flavors or any bells and whistles can taste so magnificent. I am completely converted. I can't imagine shoving chemical laden bars into my mouth too often. My new choice is LaraBars. They really can't be beat!

These bars can be found online at Amazon.com and many other outlets. They are available offline as well at health food stores and some grocery stores. I paid around $18.00 for a box of 16 bars. Prices vary a bit but the bars are just over $1.00 each. A steal if you ask me!

My Viewpoint

Check out the LaraBar website at www.larabar.com for the scoop on these great bars. Stop eating preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, and tons of added sugar. Eat raw. These bars in Cherry Pie are the best I even have tried by a long shot. 5 very healthy stars and a huge recommendation from me.

Funny... I turned off the computer last night and walked into the kitchen... where we have a Larabar! It was given as a handout at some expo we attended and there it sits. I'll have to sneak it before my wife does.

You men!!! It's just unfair that you guys can eat anything and *I* can't without having to exercise it off. Life is just NOT FAIR! Then again, I guess no one ever said it was supposed to be, eh? lol.

I love cheese but it is sooooo bad for the heart. I have to watch my cholesterol because I have a family history of very high cholesterol and I don't want it. But cheese is my favorite food of all time, Yummmmmm!

My favorite snack has two ingredients, Cheddar and Mozzarella ;) I never did get into the snack bars but I know there are some good ones out there and it looks like you found a great one! Ron

I think they have chocolate ones. You can get them on and offline. I should add that. Also the price is around $1.00 a bar. I will go edit. Good points you bring up, my friend.

Nothing but the dates, almonds, and cherries. I was really shocked that these were the same price as other bars and the taste? Amazing!

These sound really good... I'll have to look for them. Can you only get them online or did you find them in stores? What's the cost? Too bad they don't contain a whiff of dark chocolate...
