Lap Band Surgery Review

My daughter received the lap band surgery in Mexico a little over a year ago.  It was unfortunate that she had to come up with ten thousand dollars in cash and travel outside of the U.S. to get this surgery done.  She should have been able to go through her health insurance and stay right here in the states.  However since  the surgery she has lost 92 pounds.  Before this she was bloated, dressed in jeans and sweat shirts and had no social life.  Her energy level was the speed of a snail.  She ate when she was depressed and of course she was always blue because of this extra weight.  Her health was failing her and she became diabetic.She showed up for work but only did what was expected and nothing extra.  I find it amazing that she had to go to Mexico to get the surgery because no doctors in the U.S. would perform this surgery, but yet once she got back to the states she was able to go to the doctors here and get the fills done. Every six months you can go and get more fills which makes it so you have less desire to eat and get fuller quicker.  I guess I'm confused on why you can get the fills done in the states but not the surgery.  Since this time you can now get the surgery in the United States but it's almost imposssible to get your insurance carrier to approve it.  I guess they would rather pay for the on going care of diabetes and high blood pressure medicine, and heart attacks then help you to get healthier. Since my daughter got the lap band she is a new person.  She loves to dress up and has moved up in her career, getting the confidence that the weight loss has brought her.  She is also very conscious of what she eats and now maintains a good exercise regiment.  The lap band gave her the extra help that she needed.  I am glad to hear it is now available in the States, I just wish that more insurance companies would jump aboard the band wagon.  The ones who do honor this procedure make it so difficult with all of the paper work involved and counseling, doctors, etc.... that most patients end up getting discouraged.  I encourage anyone who is obese to give the lap band a chance and don't give up.  If there is a will there's a way, because it will not only change your life but will add years on to it.
