I have four children and formula fed the first two. With my (now) four year old I had wanted to try breastfeeding. I soon found out that I had superpowers. I made milk. Not just any kind of milk, but overflowing soak the bra, the tshirt and the mattress milk! I tried every single brand of nursing pad that my local specialty baby store carried. Nothing was working. I was leaking right through, finding wet spots on the fronts of my blouses. Forget staying dry overnight. I was having to sleep with a towel under my chest. I was having trouble with thrush and the nursing pads I had been using were just compounding the problem. I was at a Le Leche League meeting when one of the leaders suggested the Lansinoh nursing pads. I told her that the specialty store didn't carry them and I had never heard of them. She had a few in her diaper bag, gave them to me and told me where to find them incase I liked them. I was quite skeptical but figured I had nothing to lose. I decided to put the Lansinoh pads to the ultimate test. The overnight test. Even waking every few hours to nurse my son I would still soak nursing pads. I found that although I was filling up the Lansinoh pads they were holding up under the strain of all that milk. I was in awe. It was nice not having to wake up to change nightgowns or swap out a breastmilk laden towel for a dry towel.
When my son was 9 months old I had surgery to have a breast lump removed. I decided that I was going to continue with breastfeeding. I didn't want to give up even though I knew the difficult path infront of me. Armed with my Lansinoh pads, my husband and I went to the hospital with our son. I nursed him, emptying both breasts before the surgery and then at four hours post-op nursed him on the breast where the lump had been removed. It wasn't easy. It was actually quite scary. Due to the type of incision, I ended up with a four inch opening at the top of my breast which continuously leaked breast milk since the milk ducts had been cut into. It took almost six months for the incision to fully heal and up until that point I was using three of the Lansinoh disposable nursing pads. One for each breast, as I had been doing before, and I was using one to cover the incision site to help with the leak I had sprung. If it hadn't been for the Lansinoh pads I don't know how easy it would have been to continue breastfeeding during that time. Having a pad that I could trust to take care of me was paramount to my breastfeeding success. Up until my son weaned, at age 2 years 1 month, I used nothing but Lansinoh nursing pads. Five months after he weaned his little brother was born and the breastfeeding tradition continued. Lansinoh has been a part of my family for four years. I can't imagine having ever had the breastfeeding success that I was blessed with if it hadn't been for these nursing pads. Comfort is key. Being dry is key. Having a happy baby is key. And the Lansinoh disposable nursing pads are key.
