I picked up the Lamaze My First Fish Bowl as a gift for my 10 month old niece, Beth. It was such a big hit that I ended up ordering two more.
The toy consist of five pieces: the fishbowl and four fun sea creatures.
The lower 1/4 or so of the fishbowl has "water" which holds mini sea creatures that move around when you shake it, (think snow globe). Both of the larger fish bowl sides are transparent so the child can see (but not get) the tiny enclosed "floating" creatures. This was at first frustrating to Beth as she so desperately wanted to get to them! Once we shook it, laughed and said "ohhhh their swimming" she would copy us and after shaking it would squeal, "ohhhhhhhhhhh". Too cute.
Each of the four larger sea creatures makes some kind of noise (crinkle, squeak, jingle and rattle. These are great fun on their own as well as to put into then take out the fish bowl, over and over and over again! They are also great fun to put in your mouth which makes them being washable a really good thing! Beth loves the crab the most (both the toy and her sister) and so it goes from her mouth to the bowl to her mouth to the floor to, well you get the idea!
I will add that one (of the three) of the babies never played with the fishbowl part . I think part of the reason may be he was a bit young for the in and out concept. Also, the fishbowl has a weighted base for stability and the smaller kids can't manipulate it easily. He did however, really like the plush clam and jingly sea star. Since his Mom always stores them in the fishbowl, I am sure he will soon incorporate that into his play as well.
I really like this toy and would recommend it for children from 8 or 9 months to around 2 years old. It can be picked up for about $20
The Lamaze My First Fish Bowl is an Oppenheim Gold Award Winner!
