I bought this for my daughter at 3 months even tho the box said 6. I was being a good toy-testing parent in the store :-) and when I activated this one, her eyes locked on and never looked away! The music level isn't too loud, and it's very pleasant, soft, chime-like-notes with lights to the music. There are 3 settings: 1 - push each flower to make it sound; 2 - push any flower to make the music start for a few seconds push a flower again to make it continue the song; 3 - push any flower and it will go thru an entire song. Level 3 has two songs and level 2 has one song for a total of three separate songs. When my daughter was 3 months old she couldn't sit on her own, but I held her up and she would kick it to make it go off. I used setting 3 at this point. When she could sit up alone I usually put it on setting 2. This way she learned that when she hit a flower it played music. After she developed enough that she was getting interested in the bottom of the toy and not so much the songs, I put it on setting 1 and she went to town making her own music! She played with it almost every day. I changed the batteries once at 5 months of use, it's still going, and my daughter is now 1 year, 6 months, and 1 week old. It starts to make sour notes when the batteries are going which is funny if you have a child that notices these things and she cries everytime it makes a sound!
