If hurling over a quaint village in a rental car isn't included in your vacation plans, take a train from Milan to Como, then a bus to your vacation villa. Buses run on schedule and can muscle their way through long twisting paths that inspire vertigo. Along the way you'll see lots of bike riders practicing for the next race, wash hung on lines, colorful little villages with waterfalls running through them, children waving at you, an Olympic hopeful rowing on the lake counting strokes and glorious green hills nestled in the foothills of the Swiss Alps. The starry nights are magical. Be prepared to walk up hills to catch the bus, shop and eat. Nothing is on a level field here! Cross the lake in the water taxi, cruise by the homes of celebrities, stop at an incredible garden and get off in Como for gelato, There's a wonderful flea market in the square. Can't wait to return.
