I have three spoiled parrots: an Eclectus, a Blue & Gold Macaw, and a Timneh African Grey. Their diet consists mostly of fresh veggies, fruit, brown rice, and beans with a bit of seed/nut mix as a snack mid-day. Lately, I've gotten into the habit of giving them a treat each evening before their sunset bedtime. They usually get Lafeber Nutriberries (including the Sunny Orchard variety) for their treats, but I picked up a bag of Lafeber Nutri-Nuts at PetCo about week ago and have been using them since then.
According to Lafeber, Nutri-Nuts are "specially designed for your bird's taste buds". Basically, they are a round nugget of peanut bits, seeds, corn, oats, and millet surrounded by an outer peanut butter cookie-type shell. They are fairly large and remind me of those extra-large gumballs that you could guy in little machines when I was a kid. There are 15 Nutri-Nuts per package and you get 5 of each color (red, orange, yellow). I really like that these treats come in a resealable bag so they can stay crisp and fresh.
Unlike Lafeber's Nutriberries, Nutri-Nuts aren't meant to be fed as your bird's main diet--these are treats only. The back of the bag also forewarns you that Nutri-Nuts can turn your bird's poop different colors. I can tell you from personal experience that the red ones can make it look like there's blood in their poop.
The Eclectus and BG Macaw have no problem holding and eating them. The TAG is smaller, though, so they are a bit too large. I usually just hand the other two these treats, but I put Timi's treat into her bowl so she doesn't have to worry about trying to grip it while trying to break it up. If I only had Timi, I probably wouldn't buy these bird treats.
All three of them really like these parrot treats, so I am happy to give them one each day. Aside from the colored poop, we haven't had any issues with Lafeber Nutri Nuts. At $7 per bag, each piece works out to be almost 50 cents. I will probably go back to Nutriberries for awhile because they are more reasonably priced, but I will continue to buy this product now and then as a way to provide something different.
