La Mer Creme de 2 oz /60 ml is the cream of the celebrities. Or was. It used to enjoy a huge celebrity following but these days, it has been replaced by newer, more advanced formulas. Still two ounces of this supposed miracle cream will set you back about about $200.00.
Is it worth it? Not for me, it wasn't.
The Cream
La Mer itself doesn't know how this cream works. From their website: Even now, it is not entirely clear how Crème de la Mer works. For us schooled in logic, it is something of a jolt to the imagination. But facts are facts and certainly the proof can be seen on the faces of those who use it.
I don't know about you but, if I am going to drop $100.00 an ounce on a cream, I would like to know how the stuff works.
My Use
But I bought it anyway. Everyone was buzzing about La Mer and I wanted to be one of those on the cutting edge of anti aging. This was when $200.00 for skin cream wasn't a big deal for me. Now, I wouldn't even consider it unless it was youth in a jar.
The cream is white and fluffy. It has very little scent and it should be slightly warmed in the hands before applying. It is rich and it hydrates the skin. It feels a bit greasy so a little does go a long way.
In the morning, my skin felt hydrated and soft. But it does now with my Wei East and Philosophy products that are considered "pricey" to some but are much, much less expensive than La Mer.
There is nothing that I know of that specifically addresses aging. The cream is a moisturizer without Vitamin C (indispensable), Retinal or any variation, antioxidants, or anything else that we now know will definitely help ward off aging.
It plumps the skin with moisture. It makes the skin smooth. It hydrates. But that's really all it does.
Those with oily skin will find it is too rich. I believe La Mer sells an oil free lotion for those skin types.
The La Mer website calls the cream's ingredients "Miracle Broth" but doesn't list its ingredients anywhere. WHY?
I think this is a good hydrating cream that is woefully overpriced. Some people are devoted to it and that's great. I am not. I did not see any special results when I used this cream. My skin was, indeed, smooth and moisturized and the product was concentrated so I didn't need much.
But for $100.00 an ounce, I want more than that. I want visible results. I want to look better, glowing, younger. I didn't. I looked like I took good care of my skin but I do now too and I use much less expensive creams.
Conclusion
If you can afford it and it works for you, La Mer may be the answer for you. I tried it and would have kept buying it if I saw amazing results. I didn't. I saw some hydration and felt soft, smooth skin. It isn't a BAD product at all. It's a fine moisturizer. But, for the price, I want more than just a moisturizer and LaMer didn't give me that.
This product, if it was about $50.00, would be above average as far as hydrating dry skin. For $200.00, it's average at best.
Try it if you can afford it but don't expect miracles. The newer creams out have more of what we need to keep our skin youthful and I will leave the pricey, older formulas to the stars who can go under the knife and turn back the clock any time they want.
3 stars. It's good but it's not golden.
