I have a love/hate relationship with the LUSH brand... I dislike more of their products than I like but for some reason I still feel compelled to try everything in the line.  One of the best products that I've tried in the past year is Sandstone Soap.  I've even gotten my sister hooked on it and she has no idea what LUSH is.

This soap is a translucent yellow with opaque white blobs scattered throughout.  Along the top, there's about a half-inch layer of packed sand like you'd see at the beach.  The idea is to wash your skin with the soap and exfoliate it with the sand.  The problem is that the sand wears away pretty quickly so you can't really just rub the upper layer along your body.  The best way that I've worked out to use it is to slide it along skin sideways: this allows you to both cleanse and exfoliate without wearing away the sand layer too quickly.

LUSH Sandstone Soap does a very nice job of cleansing and exfoliating skin.  I find the sandy, scratchy sensation to be extremely pleasant... but I am a fan of very strong and harsh body scrubs.  After rinsing the soap off, my skin feels neither moisturized nor dried out.  I usually slather myself in a moisturizer or body butter anyway before getting dressed so I don't mind if this soap isn't particularly moisturizing.

I am a big fan of lemony and citrus scents so the straight-up lemon fragrance of Sandstone is perfect for me.  My only complaint is that the scent doesn't linger on my skin after I get out of the shower and dry myself off.  I'd be happy if the lovely lemony fragrance hung around for awhile.

LUSH Sandstone Soap is rather pricey.  I don't remember the exact per pound cost but a chunk that is about the same size as a traditional bar of soap will run you between $14 and $18, depending on the exact weight.  A sales associate told me that you tend to pay more for this product (as compared to other LUSH soaps) because the sand layer on top of the soap makes it heavier.

I've tried almost every bar soap that this company makes and I have to say that Sandstone is one of their best.  I enjoy the scent and I absolutely love the strong scratchy sensation that this soap produces as I rub it along my skin.  It certainly can't be described as inexpensive but I think that it's well worth the cost.

Yay! I am not the only one who likes Sandstone. People think I am crazy but I just love it!
